Kudos to Jenson USA's apparel/shoe return policy which allowed me to try on a few sizes. The GOOD: It seems like it can fit a range of foot shapes and works with a wide forefoot like mine (I do not have large ankles but heel-lift was minimal), the reverse buckle and cinch laces work well, the toe rand is beefy. The BAD: I tried on three different sizes and on each one, the tongue would cause discomfort by digging into the front of my ankle no matter how I had the ratchet adjusted (tight to loose). It's most noticeable when the foot is near the 9 o'clock pedaling position or if you're walking. I have never worn shoes that did that to me! A part of the tongue's edge has padding sewn in but didn't help. The tongue's material seems like it's too thick/stiff and/or the tongue is a bit too long. Wearing thicker socks didn't help. Photos of last year's version shows it's different. I really wanted this shoe to fit but will unfortunately need to return. Hope it works for others.
Excellent design, comfortable, good looks. Coming from a lifetime of Italian cycling shoes and Moto boots, I was a bit nervous about purchasing this Shimano shoe. Initial impression are positive, the fit was spot on at 48/13 size with a DeFeet wool cycling sock. Running Time ATAC MX pedals and the cleat engagement is perfect. Very pleased with this shoe.
What can I say it’s Shimano quality. If you wear Shimano bike shoes these are consistent with their sizing. Haven’t had a chance to use them yet; however, wearing them around the house has proven comfortable. The sole looks like it will give great grip when hike a bike over rocky and or slippery steep conditions.
Efficient pedaling, nice protection, comfortable and breathable. Heal keeps dirt from getting into the shoe. I use this for Enduro and it checks all the boxes. I bought my normal shoe size which normally fits perfect for shimano but these run a touch big. That being said I quite like having a touch more room for my toes. Seems like a quality built shoe that will last.
I’ve put three rides on these so far and have been really pleased with them. Shimano makes my favorite shoes anyway because they always fit right. I have a wide foot and it’s hard to find shoes that fit well. Up until this pair I had been running the same shoe for probably five years and they have seen better days. If you have a wide foot and want something tough but still walkable and comfortable these are the ticket.
Have been using the AM9 for the last few years. These are a noticeable upgrade from them. The boot and latch mechanism is awesome. If you have narrow feet, you may get some bunching of material in the toes, but it is not uncomfortable.
As a self-described trail/xc type rider I hesitated buying these shoes because of their "enduro" status. Only one ride in and I'm already a huge fan. Plenty stiff to satisfy my inner roadie. Tons of traction when pushing the bike. Even the ankle cuff proved worthy as my ride included snow drifts, mud, and plenty of loose gravel (my son had snow packed into his shoes while my feet came away totally dry!) I went with my usual size and did find these were a bit larger volume in the toe box, but on the trail the performance was great and the extra volume just meant a bit of a buffer for my toes while I bounced through Gowdy's rock gardens.
