The Vittoria Randonneur II tire is a high-performance city trekking tire with 30 TPI casing and Double Shielding puncture protection. A lightweight and reliable tire, the Randonneur works well in wet and dry conditions thanks to the Aqua-Flow tread pattern. Aqua-Flow tread derives from car-tire technology, introducing carefully shaped channels (commonly referred to as ‘sipes’) across the tire’s tread to drain water away and let the tire grip the surface more effectively €“ an important feature for city and trekking cyclists. The reliable Randonneur II brings road-bike performance to the city rider and randonneur, providing longer life over further distances and over abrasive surfaces while retaining the dynamic characteristics of a high-end performance tire.
The 32mm version came with my commuter bike. I did a lot of research on a replacement tire as I racked up miles on my current set. After 4000 miles, zero flats, and enough tread to go another 1000 miles (or more), I decided to order the same tire. New set is in and I am holding off on installing it until I wear out the first set! I commute about 80-90 miles a week. Rated pressure is 75 psi. I'm not fanatic about the pressure so I let the pressure drop over time and top it off when I need to. I weigh 185, my bike weighs about 30, and I often lug clothes, computer, and books to and from work in my rear bags. The tires are not for racing, although I move along at a good pace for commuting (14-17 mph) and every day I commute through and around construction sites in SW and SE D.C. I'm satisfied with the tires.
It seems single speeders love these, but I have been using these on a purpose built commuter for years. I've consistently gotten 1.500+ miles on a back tires with a very heavy setup. Front tire life is almost double that. I think I got one flat through these beefy tires over the 7,000 miles I've been running them. I change them when I can see red all the way around the tire.
I have used these for a few years and never had a flat on rough Seattle glass covered streets. I recently went on a 60 mile ride and found the rolling resistance intolerable. Checking out bicyclerollingresistance.com confirmed that this is one of the highest rolling resistance tires out there. It is a chore to get going faster than 15mph with this tire and for a reason. I will be looking for a lower resistance tire now.
