As its name suggests, the Trail Boss was designed to have you reign authority over the trail. The WTB Trail Boss features a snug enough tread spacing for high speed, drag-free assaults, yet its knobs are blocky and elevated enough to really gnash when it comes time to hit the brakes and corner with grace. A rounded profile and staggered, supported side knobs keep clawing for traction even when the trail loses its flow.
WTB's TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) tire technology is designed around tubeless bead shapes and hooks to create a seamless interface between tire and rim for the most reliable tubeless setup. This TCS Light version is sealant ready and features a gram-conscious, supple and compliant carcass that lowers rotational weight to keep you rolling faster, for longer. Employing WTB's FR (fast rolling) Dual DNA rubber compound, the Trail Boss's centerline tread is firm and long-wearing, while the side knobs remain supple, optimizing efficiency, traction and durability.
Dual DNA Compound: centerline tread features a firmer rubber compound that boasts faster rolling and increased durability, while the side knobs are composed of softer, slower-rebounding rubber that improves control and grip
TCS Light: light, supple and compliant, sealant ready
FR: fast rolling, with WTB's Dual DNA rubber compound that optimizes efficiency, traction and durability. A firm, long-wearing centerline tread with softer side knobs
Lightweight Casing: supple, gram-conscious carcass designed to be compliant and conform to trail objects while still providing a happy balance of low rotational weight and rugged reliability
TCS (Tubeless Compatible System): standards-driven system designed around tubeless bead shapes and hooks to create repeated sealant-based consistency between tire and rim
I bought the WTB Trail Boss as a back up tire, but after using it for 50 miles to test out it will now be my full time tire. I am currently running a trail boss 27.5x3.0 in the back and a WTB bridger 27.5x3.0 in the front. I have tested over 6 tires in the past six months and this set up has been the best. The WTB trail boss runs a tad smaller than 3.0 but that is okay, it makes me feel faster.
