Believe The Hype
After just a couple of rides (12 miles of Fullerton Loop and 35 miles of Hell Ride,)on my 34t AB Oval I'm a believer. Pedalling doesn't feel odd. Counterintuitively, it feels more "round" than round chainrings. It is easier on my knees, I climb a bit faster, and the traction seems more consistent.

I'm not an exceptionally fit or fast rider, (The Velominati would call me "too fat to climb") but on sustained climbs, I was dropping riders that looked like they were in better shape than me.

It also makes wheelies better.

it works. Well.
Replaced my 32 tooth ring with a AB 34t Oval on a single speed 29er and will never go back. Great of climbing and reduces wheel spin under high torque low speed sections. Feels natural.

sold on oval
Set up with Shimano 1x11 on a '14 Trance, feels like this ring improved my performance on tricky as well as long climbs. Wish AB made a 30T 64. Four stars because I don't know what "perfect" is

Love the oval!
I have been riding the oval ring for about 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. It is much more smooth on steep climbs and now I have zero knee pain when I put the hammer down.

Excellent. You won't feel the ovality
Use a 36T oval 104BCD in my mountain bike to ride on the road. Is perfect. I actually left it installed and have been training with this big chainring. No complains at all. Totally recommend it.

Awesome!
you would not think the pedal stroke would be smooth, but there is no noticeable lag, except when you are coasting and start to pedal again

Great chainring
I use AB ovals on both of my Mountainbikes. I am not sure about any of the manufacturers claims but it does seem to reduce knee pain for me. Especially on long sustained climbs, it seems like I can push a little harder. I am prepared to accept that it is purely psychological. Who cares if it is. 1/2 of riding is mental anyway.

Money well spent
The difference between a round & oval chainring is more than I expected it to be. The feeling is more "round" than a round chainring & seem to be able to put more power to the ground more consistently. Climbing is definitely smoother & seems to take less effort than before. Getting up to speed & back up to speed out of a corner is without a doubt faster. Overall my experience using the Absolute Black oval chainring has been nothing but positive & I don't plan on going back to a round chainring any time soon if ever.

Does this come with bolts?
Aaron K on Feb 17, 2017
will i be able to use this with my Shimano SLX 1x11 setup?
IntenseDane on Mar 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That will work just fine. I run it with both an XT and XTR cassettes. The only thing you need to make sure you get right is the BCD (bolt circle diameter) for the cranks you are using.
does this fit a sram x1 crank arm?
ronbs on Aug 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It should, you just have to measure the bolt centre diameter BCD, on your sram crank spider to confirm (from bolt centre to the opposite bolt centre). 104 is the most common for mountain bikes.
