I built a front wheel with an Adventurer a year ago, the wheel has been a long way without problem. I just built up a back wheel with an Adventurer. It built well and true. The test will be to ride it!
I have two other bikes with Alex rims, they have been excellent.

I can't find a problem with Alex. They are good value.

I purchased this rim to build up a wheelset for my commuter bike in the spring of 2011 and have put about 5,000 miles on them. I give this bike a beating year round and the wheels take a pounding hauling all of my stuff up and down curbs and over some pretty rough stretches of pavement. I haven't touched the spokes since the day I took them off of the wheel stand and these rims still run as true as the day I built them up. I can't say enough good things about these rims and if you are a clyde or otherwise need a stronger rim for heavy duty service, you can't go wrong with these.

Interestingly enough, the reason that I am writing this review is because I was shopping for another set so I can have dedicated wheels and tires with studs to pop on the bike when the weather conditions call for it and that is when I noticed another reviewer complaining about his Suomi Hakkapelittas coming off of the rim. I have been running that tire on the Alex rim for a couple of weeks now without issue. However, when I was shopping for my Hakkapelittas, several reviewers complained about the same issue with that tire. I assumed it was probably a wheel/tire compatibility issue and I was careful to check the tire size when they arrived. The Hakkapelittas are a 40 x 622 tire and the Alex Adventurer rim is a 622 x 18 rim. Its overall diameter is roughly 632, so it will provide good bead engagement on any accurately manufactured 622 tire. Theoretically, the tire width should not exceed 2x the inner rim diameter, so the Hakkapelitta is a little wide for this rim but it should work ok anyway. However, what I did notice was that the Hakkapellita's have an almost non-existent bead. There is no profile on this tire to engage the clincher rim, so I am not surprised that some users might have had issues with this tire on rims that don't provide adequate support.

The bottom line is that the other reviewer's issue is most likely a tire issue, not an issue with this rim. Other tires that I have mounted on this rim stick like glue and I don't seem to have any issues so far with the Hakkapelittas, and I check them every day just to be certain.

The rim had a couple of scratch marks upon arrival. Not impressed with how it arrived. I would have sent back but for a time sensitive build. Not how a brand new wheel set should go out the door.

Frustrated! I live in alaska and I commute by bike. Most of the year I need to have nokian hakka 240 stud tires to make getting around on snow and ice possible. The problem is that these rims came with my new Surly LHT, and when I changed the tires I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the tires WILL NOT SEAT. Nearly killed me on a down hill where the tire didn't seat and jammed the front wheel.WINTER RIDERS BEWARE. I tried 3 different (two nokian studded tires, marathon studded) sets of tires on these rims (both front and back) and have had the same trouble with the tire bursting off.
