Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2012

Item #: BR263F00
Availability Please make a selection
Quantity   Out of stock.
The king of all mechanical disc brakes is even better for 2011. If youve decided not to move to a hydraulic system, this is the very best mechanical option available.

Avids CPS (caliper positioning system, included) continues to make setup and adjustment a snap, saving you valuable time you can spend riding instead of wrenching. Each kit includes one Avid G2 rotor, a round style with excellent cooling and mud-clearing properties that also offers quiet operation.
  • There is no "front" or "rear" option. Both F& R adapters are in the box. Order Qty "2" if you need enough brakes for one bicycle
  • BB7 features inboard and outboard pad adjustment knobs so you can easily dial in the pad<-->rotor clearance (an upgrade over the BB5)
  • Works with all linear pull (i.e. "v-brake") levers from any manufacturer, but best when paired with an adjustable-leverage ratio lever like Avids excellent Speed Dial line
  • claimed 329 grams
  • All BB7 disc brakes are 74mm post-mount style; and include front & rear adapters for 51mm IS disc brake mounts in the box

Note: this is the mountain bike version of the brake. Avid also makes a road-specific model for use with drop bar bikes.

Per the recommendations of friends, purchasing the Avid BB7 brakes was the first big upgrade I made on my Trek Marlin 29er. The larger break pads, better looks, and easy adjustability of the new breaks are nice. But performance increases over my original low-end Tektro brakes were marginal, and there was no weight savings in the upgrade. They don't squeak as bad as the Tektros either, which is a bonus. I'm pleased with the upgrade and simplicity (over going with a hydro unit), but in hind-sight I probably would have spend my money on other weight-saving improvements first if I had to do it over again. Still, I'm pleased with the product. This was my first purchase with JensonUSA and they were FANTASTIC! Out of the two (front and back) breaks I purchased, one of them arrived with a defective spring clip. When I called Jenson, the representative was more helpful than I even expected, immediately shipping me a new one without requiring me to send in the old one first, and even credited me for the expense of shipping the old one back!!! Customer service like that made me an immediate fan for life. Next upgrade...wheels and tubeless tires...will definitely be bought through JensonUSA!

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2012:

I bought these as part of a project to upgrade an older mtb which had v-brakes, and I am very happy with the result. They were simple to install and are easy to adjust, disassemble, maintain etc. I've been riding with them for about 8 months and feel like I'm getting better stopping power and control. If you're not looking to go all out to hydraulic but still want the disc setup - bb7's are your best option.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2012:

These disc brakes are as simple and easy to install as can be. I replace my ever irritating Juicy 5's with these and have never been happier. No special tools needed to adjust and just ride and forget. Never been happier with a set of brakes. Can't go wrong with this one.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2012:

Bought the BB7s to replace the cheaper and annoying originals that needed regular readjustment. They are very easy to install and adjust, and well modulated. Much better than the old tektro novelas, which i would not recommend. BB7s brake almost as well as hydraulics, and are easier to install and set up. They're less prone to lock up than the hydraulics on my other bike. Suitable for electric bikes too, without changing levers.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2012:

I run BB7s on two of my bikes, one is a mountain bike and the other is an adventure/touring bike with drop bars and road brake levers. Hydro discs are not really even an option when using road levers, so I went with BB7s since they are the best mechanical brakes that I know of. BB7s are easy to set up and easy to adjust, plus they use a larger brake pad than most of the competition. Replacement pads are easy to find to boot. I have other brands of disc brakes on some of my other mountain bikes, but I have had brake noise problems with some brands, and baking power is not as good with some of the others as well. So, even though these may cost a little more, I think that they are worth it.

Couldn't be happier with the results I'm getting from these brakes. I installed them in 10-15 minutes, it comes with everything you need. It's been 1 month since I bought them and now I can do downhill up to 40MpH, hit the brakes for a quick stop or regulate speed with a lot of precision. The fact that I'm new to MTB is compensated with the performance of these brakes. Now I can catch up with my buddies which are medium level Mountain Bikers! 110% Recommended
