Replace pads without even dropping your wheel! New disc- brake pads can be installed without taking the wheel off. I have been riding this brakes for about four months. Decent braking for a decent price. They have replaced my old Avid Juicy Fives. Compared to the Juicy Fives this brake is a huge improvement. Not a whole lot of adjustment available but for the money I am happy with this brake.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought these to replace my rear brakes and they have worked great from day 1. They may not be the best brakes out there but I have not had any issue with them. I do wish they had some adjustability in the caliper but for the price they have been solid.

    These brakes came with my bike and although they do what they are supposed to and stop better than the mechanical discs on my previous bike, they often feel spongy and always seem to be producing noises such as grinding and squeaking. Overall not bad and would likely be great for the budget minded, but there are others for just slightly more that I have experienced that have fewer problems.

    Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      Comments about Avid Elixir 3 Disc Brake:

      The bleeding process is on the more difficult end and they still seem a little spongy. Also, they will sometimes make a screaching noise and you can feel what seems like the pads to be almost grinding on the calpier. Aside from that, however, when set up properly, they do get the job done.

        Take your time and set up according to instructions and you will be rewarded with no drag or squeal. You must be able to spin your tire while you line up the caliper..then torque to 8 to 10 nm......Use a work stand or hang your bike on your car rack for the install.

        These brakes came standard on my new bike. After a month of screwing around with these, I am done with them. I have tried every possible fix, but the squeals, and tick-tick-tick noises keep coming back no matter how well adjusted. Of course, I have no tolerance for brake rub at even the most minute level. After having dug around the forums I have learned that this is a common and "accepted" condition of these brakes. I am switching to BB7 mechanical brakes (GASP!) so that I can tweak and adjust to my hearts content. I think hydro's are just too much fuss for me. Some hydro's do have pad clearance adjust for a lot more money.

        Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
