Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
Quite simply this is an amazing value for a linear-pull/V-brake. When paired with Avid's Speed Dial brake lever, you have an incredible combination. I also run these on a mountain bike with a drop handlebar and they work well with Dia-Compe 287V aero brake levers.
Any complaints about brake power fading under hard braking or noisy braking can be easily addressed by changing brake pads to superior Kool-Stop pads. Proper set-up (with a little bit of toe-in) is also important.
Unless you're running Shimano XT/XTR V-Brakes, these are an incredible braking upgrade.

Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
I've used these on my single speed and they are great brakes. They stop great and were extremely easy to set up. The spring is strong and makes them have a good solid feel. They do tend to lose a little bit of power in mud and when wet but not much (and is expected as they are rim brakes), but it's not really noticeable. I'd definitely buy them again if I was building up another v-brake bike.

Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
Non-nonsense brakes. Simple and durable, these were a great upgrade to my commuter.
They lack the power of my older XTR v-brakes, but they're substantially less expensive.

Quick and easy way to upgrade my old cani brakes. A great value for anyone looking to improve their bike's brakes.

Replaced Shimano XT v brakes with that stupid parallelogram thing. After it wears a bit you can't set up the brakes. I like the KISS principle in the avid brakes

Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
I bought a Koga Globetraveller that came with XT V brakes with the parallelogram shoe mounts. They squealed so much I stopped riding the bike. I tried different types of grease. Different types of shoes. Nothing worked. Lately, Shimano designers seem to have confused complexity with sophistication. I'm very impressed with everything I have bought from Sram/Avid. These brakes, some Attack 9 speed grip shifts and chains that I can repeatedly remove and clean without buying riveted master links.
Sram/Avid seems to understand the importance of simplicity, serviceability and realized, rather than rationalized, performance improvements.

Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
Bought these as an upgrade to a touring bike. Really happy with them, was tempted to swap them with the XTR V-Brakes on my hard tail mountain bike. I ran these with full fenders and they had enough clearance. I'm decent at setting up brakes, but I think set-up is easier than a typical V-Brake.
Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
I have my own custom built MTB, based on a 1994 KHS Chromalloy frame. That should tell you right away that I am not wowed by every flashy new product which hits the market. This bike has traveled 5 continents, and tens of thousands of miles. I not overly impressed with discs - I need a reliable simple-to-maintain system when in remote places, so I stick with V-brakes. I've had these Avid 7's now for over 2 years, they do the job every time, last and last, don't break down, and require minimal maintenance. I won't look elsewhere when I need to replace them (a long time in the future).
Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
No matter what condition or type of ride, these breaks slow or stop me as quickly as I need. They are light, they look great, they are a no brainer upgrade. I'm using them on Mavic crossride ub wheels, which are nicely milled, which may add to how well they are working for me.
Comments about Avid Single Digit 7 Brake 2011:
Bought a cheap tandem to help rehab my wife's knee after surgery. Original brakes scary going downhill. Put these guys on, went for a solo test ride, almost endo'd.
