I use it to convert my 3x10 into 2x10, the 36t size can cover even a 38t chainring. Aluminium is super hard and very light. I have a Shimano M552 crank, it fits well.
Warning: anodized wears fast if bash contacts the chainguide roller, my mistake.
Now I'm going to order a white one :-)

I bought one for my DH bike and one for my slopestyle bike. It was a big weight savings over what I had and looks better too. I might be sacrificing some durability on the DH bike, but it's a fair trade-off.

The Race Face lightweight bash guard seems perfect for anything but downhill racing where maybe something more substantial is needed. From what I have heard,though, if you go with a more rugged design you are just more likely to bend the crank or BB while the bash guard survives. I'd rather have this nice lightweight (60 grams)guard for so little $$$ and if it bends it is much less than a new crank to replace.

The Racface LW bash ring meets the need if you want a lightweight bash ring. It weighed in at 60 grams yet seems pretty sturdy. Maybe not for downhiller's but for XC this is perfect and looks good too. It installed easily using the original bolts that attached the big ring to the middle ring.
