I was building a new frame, planning to recycle some parts, but didn't have a top clamp/bottom pull FD. Ordered this one from JensonUSA, had it on my doorstep 2 days later. Pretty much plug and play, a few quick adjustments and instantly had smooth and crisp shifts.

I got this to build up my FS MtBike. It see lots of miles in very rough conditions and it never misses a shift.
XTR is lighter but cost more and too many of my friends have broken them. The XT has the good shifting without being easy to break.

I ride typical cross crountry terrain: single-track, some downlill, lots of climbing. In the past I'd accepted that front shifting was just awful. My crankset (Cannondale in-house component) and Deore front derailleur just didn't get the job done. Whenever I'd have to shift chainrings, I'd need to soft-pedal. Shifting down while climbing (under load)? Forget it!
So 6 months ago I upgraded my crank and front derailleur to Shimano XY (dynasys). The change is performance is INCREDIBLE. I run the 2x10 XT crankset and the matching derailleur (smaller cage for double chainring). I can now shift chainrings under incredible loads-- shifting is quick, positive, and quiet.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This derailleur has seen several thousand miles with no issues. XT is great. Not sure why people spend extra money on XTR. The shifters feel a bit different, but you won't see me spending the extra loot there.
