This is one of those optional tools that are actually very useful. You could do the same with a bolt & some washers, but this tool fits various spindles and will protect your BB removal tools from getting damaged. Works by holding your BB tool firmly in the splines before applying torque to remove your BB. Stops your tool from popping out and damaging splines of tool (or worse -your BB). This tool is reversable for different BBs & should work with most removal tools. Highly recommended.

If you're going to do repairs on a square taper or splined (Shimano Octolink, etc.) bottom bracket, buy this thing. It turned what was an irritating half-hour fighting with a wrench and bottom-bracket tool into five minutes of ease. Instead of having to hold the tool on with one hand and twist with all your strength with the other, this makes taking off a bottom bracket as easy as turning a bolt.

This little tool works great for its intended purpose. It'll only work with square taper as well as spline(Shimano V1, V2, and ISIS spline) bottom brackets. One end of the tool fits into the square taper ends, while the other end of the tool fits into the spline spindle ends. Attach tool into bb spindle end, place your bb socket tool thru this tool, then tighten the big washer to hold the bb socket tool tight against the bottom bracket before wrenching. This prevents the bb socket tool from slipping when applying torque in the wrenching process.
