I use these for XC riding and racing. They replaced my OEM Tektro 379A levers on an '02 Cannondale Super V 500. Huge improvement in quality and performance. I used them with V-Brakes and then swapped out to mechanical disc. They work perfect for both. These are simple and lightweight. I don't need adjustability.

My FR-5's weigh 151g with clamp bolts.

I have had a couple of sets (1999 Specialized FSR Comp) of Avid V brakes and have had very good service from them under race and tough XC conditions. Good adjustability that doesn't need frequent readjustment , relative to some others. I have no need of the weight and complication of Discs or hydraulics. I live/ride in South Florida, not much in hills but Moisture is a killer here. For years, I've run several different sets of wheels/hub sets on the same frame and swapping out is NO problem with rim brakes. If I can get replacement levers, I intend on moving these to my mid-grade Hybrid road bike which gets much less abuse. Good enough but NOT Epic race grade. Replaced with Avid Ultimates. Hope to offer glowing report on this upgrade.

I got these in a package deal from another company. They get the job done, but I would probably buy the 'sevens' if I had to choose new ones. I'll probably do that, and put these on one of my kids bikes! OK for now though. I would recommend only if money was tight, and you need cheap fox!

    Buy the 7's instead.

These levers will do the job - barely - but they have virtually no adjustability, and compared to Avid's 7 lever... there is NO comparison. They have a mushy feel and weak power transfer against what the 7 accomplishes. If you're on the fence, spend another $7.00 and get the "7" lever; they are superior in every way to the 5.

    By Jaisimha

I had to replace the levers (Tektro) that came on my bike. I was looking for levers that were light, comfortable and powerful. These levers have improved my riding as they are at a comfortable distance from handlebar and can be operated by one finger (minimal effort).Apart from being affordable they look good and perform too.

Bought these levers to replace the cheap plastic ones that were falling apart on my olpran, ive never been happier, my only regret is that the levers are a bit short for where they have to be positioned.

The lest two times I've went out I've had one break in half and bend. Granted I've taken some spills so maybe if you don't ride to hard then they might be fine, but I'd spend the extra money

    By John

    from Fort Rucker, Al

Overall experience is AWESOME. I put em' on two years ago, and since then, every time I've pulled them, my bike has stopped. What else can I say? They have adjustability, and they don't make any noise. They function as they are supposed to. They are a GREAT price.
