These are very quiet pads. They seem to be wearing fast. The OEM Avid brand (organic)pads seem to last me one season and cost about $24. The serfas pads are lasting half as long - I use 2 sets per season but at [$] that's a great savings. I put about 1500km a year on my mtb bike - use that as a gauge for how long they may last for you.

I am not sure how/where everyone reviewing these pads are riding...but I have gone through 3 sets of these in one summer. In fact, the most recent pair found myself pulling my levers to my bars within two weeks (and that included a brake bleed).

These pads also are NOT very powerful, especially when wet...so if you are mostly riding XC in rolling/flat areas, they will be fine. Mix in some all mountain ridnig with some serious descents and steepes, and you wont be thrilled with the lifespan. I could have just gone with the Avids once rather than these 3 times this summer... i must be a cheap biker bum!

Put these on the front of my 2012 Camber Comp. Easy to put in. Bite is not as good as the sintered (?) pads I had previously, but work fine.

Comments about Serfas Avid Elixir Disc Brake Pads:

Like others, over several months I became increasingly frustrated with the constant mice-like squeaking of the stock pads on my Avid Elixir 7 brakes. Constant cleaning, sanding and adjusting only to have the mice come back in full force again within a couple miles. Finally I Googled "Avid Elixir noise" and lo and behold I see a link to these Serfas. After reading the reviews and seeing the price I gave them a shot and I'm glad I did - no more noise!

I'm a true recreational road & mountain biker that rides only 2000-2500 miles a year so I don't have a ton of experience with disc brakes. What I can say is these have an overall different feel than the OEM pads in that they aren't as "grabby" - it's much more of a smooth stopping power. I feel like there's more of an overall range from just feathering the brakes to a full on grab.

It's been mentioned that these are thicker than the stock pads and they are. The front was fine but I just bled a few drops from the rear and all is well. As for durability - I don't know, but even if I have to replace these a few times a year it's a heck of a lot better than having a pack of mice follow me along the trail.

Comments about Serfas Avid Elixir Disc Brake Pads:

Used these to replace the practically new pads on my Elixer 9 brakes, which made horrible turkey noises all the time. I tried sanding, cleaning, beveling the edges, swapping positions, etc. Stock pads are just aweful.
These Serfa pads fixed the problem! I still have to see how they perform long term, so only four stars, but they immediately made my riding experience more enjoyable.

Comments about Serfas Avid Elixir Disc Brake Pads:

Keep in mind that every third party brand pads for Elixirs that I have tried, including Serfas, have always had too much pad and need to be sanded down to fit in with the rotor. They will then rub for at least your first ride, but will eventually wear away to acceptable size. These are as good as the Avid organic brakes. Maybe better because they are semi-metallic. Wish they had a sintered pad (the best for stopping power).

Comments about Serfas Avid Elixir Disc Brake Pads:

These are very quiet compared to the Elixir 5 OEM pads. I frequently ride a 15-mile 5,000 vertical-foot downhill, and I don't get a peep from these. They wear somewhat quickly, but I at ten bucks a pop I can afford to stock up.

Comments about Serfas Avid Elixir Disc Brake Pads:

Very quiet compared to oem pads in Avid Elixir 7sl's. the brakes are on a 2012 specialized epic 29, with Elixir 7sl calipers/levers and HS1 rotors 180 front and 160 rear. oem pads were very loud with lots of turkey warble, but these resolved that issue. I was getting some noise from my rear brake that seemed to be a squeaker noise indicating the pads were worn out, but removing them shows lots of wear thickness still left. they did create some wear cutting and heat damage on the rear 160 (see my HS1 rotor review for pics), but the front 180 is performing well.

the stopping performance is better than the oem avid pads imo, but I do not have a comparison to Avid replacement (non-oem) pads. I think the serfas are starting to have some fade and lesser effectiveness about 50% thru the pad thickness, which is at 300 miles for me. at this price though, it just makes sense to replace them early and have new pads with better stopping power again.
