Cane Creek ST Thudbuster Seatpost

"ST" stands for "short-travel" - 1.3" of travel is ideal for cross-country racers, road, or comfort riding where you just need to take the edge off bumps without the complexity of a true suspension solution. A patented 4-pivot force aligned parallel linkage keeps the pedal to saddle distance nearly constant through its travel.

An aluminum mast and links, rebuildable stainless pivots, and bronze-impregnated PTFE coated steel bushings keep the weight down to 460 grams - barely more than a traditional rigid post.

Weight: 454-474 grams, depending on size

After much...
After much deliberation, I bought this post. Having never owned a suspension seat post before, I was dubious about how much it might help. And, the price tag was more than a bit intimidating. So far, I am ecstatic. I do a lot of riding on gravel and uneven pavement, and I'm used to hopping out of the saddle for minor bumps. Small holes, concrete seams, manhole covers, pavement to sidewalk transitions - this post absorbs them all. With this post, I can stay in the saddle almost entirely. It completely easts up the little bumps that you take for granted. Being on the heavy side, I did have to swap out the elastomer, but the process was easy. It was nice that they ship the unit with multiple inserts, allowing you to match your riding weight - or to pre-load the seat for harder riding.

Takes the Edge Off
This is a great addition to my rigid 29er steel bike. Takes just enough of an edge off where I can stay in the saddle more without adding a lot of weight or altering the handling of the bike.

I don't think I can go back to a regular seatpost after having this one!

I weigh 150 lbs and use the stock elastomer. It comes with one firmer and one softer. I haven't tried those yet.

A nice compromise
Very noticeable bump absorption without hurting your spin. I have lumbar stenosis so I decided to try this post. I am pleased with it, not too much added weight and doesn't sag much.

PROS: Absorbs bumps

This is one of the...
This is one of the best purchases I have made for my bike. I use my bike for about 100 miles a week of commuting. My bike has quite a harsh ride and I have spend quite i bit of time fiddling with seats and fit to try and get it comfortable. Its comfortable for a while then I get numbness and soreness on my legs and bum. After purchasing the Thudbuster ST all the soreness went away. The smacks on my bum going over a pothole are now just wobbles. I was worried that the seat would affect my peddling but except for my comfortable ride I would not notice that it was there. A fabulous product.

Stiction free but not enough travel.
I have been using "long travel" (2"+) suspension seat posts for twenty years or so. I bought the Thudbuster hoping it would be a little more durable than the USE posts I have been using. I also hoped that an inch and a third would be enough travel for my bad back (three surgeries). It's not, except on smoothish pavement. I bought the CANE CREEK long travel Thudbuster years ago, and it had too much travel.

Love This Thing!
Really nice addition to my rigid, backcountry touring ride. It's super easy to set up and once it's on, you just kind of forget about it until you hit some rough trail, and then you're loving it! The only reason I gave it four stars is it is a little heavy and slightly expensive in my opinion, but very minor and nit picky things and I would reccomend it to anybody needing a little extra cushion.

PROS: No Maintenance, Works, Easy To Set Up, Simple Design

CONS: None

Great! Deferred FS bike buy :)
Using this post on my Lynskey Ti hard tail 29er and it does a great job soaking up small bumps and trail chatter that was really starting to annoy me :) I was gearing up to buy a FS bike, but thought I would give this a try... compared to the cost of a new bike, I figured I had very little to lose. Well, it does everything I need! I have more freedom now to do more seated riding and climbing, and when on the really rough stuff where I might get whacked by the saddle, the Thudbuster softens the blow. Yes, it's heavy, but worth it for normal rides. In a race, I would go without it to shave weight. If the rider has the right expectations (i.e., that this post soaks up the small stuff, is not damped, and does nothing for big hits) and needs, this post is sure to be a winner. My only gripe is that it makes some rattling noise when I'm unseated riding through rough terrain. The rattling comes from the pivots which do have a little bit of play.

PROS: Takes Edge Off Small Bump, Strong Construction, Attractive Design

CONS: Rattles When Unweighted, Heavy

A well designed beefy shock post
This is a great seat post. It is very sturdy with great shock absorbing rubber ! If you have a hard tail and have to dodge pot holes, curbs or if you ride trail and find the bumps get to you this is a great solution.

A must for hard tail bikes
If you have a hard tail, with high-pressure, narrow tires and you want your meat parts to not hurt all the time, buy this.

Love it!
Bought this to reduce impacts on the back and backside as the aging process has made it more difficult to ride comfortably. This is on a loaded touring bike and the difference with and w/o are easily noticeable. No bobbing is felt, just a smooth transition over rough surfaces. Now if they only made a stem that could do the same for the front end.....
