Bionicon C-Guide V.02

The Bionicon C-Guide v.02 is the perfect solution to dropped chains. Winner of the 2010 Eurobike Design award and the 2011 Bike and Freeride Milestone Award, the Bionicon C-Guide V02 (version2) is now available at Jenson USA. The split design of the Bionicon allows easy installation without needing to break your chain or removing cables. The pivoting tube keeps things quieter by following the chain line better. Less noise means less abrasion and less wear. The overall package weighs in at a very light 20 grams and does the job of keeping your chain in line. The Bionicon C-Guide V.02 Chainguide attaches to virtually any bike with a normal chainstay(with included zip ties) and works great with double and triple chainrings. The Bionicon C-Guide V.02 Chainguide reinforces the "good things come in small package" notion. Mount the Bionicon chainguide and enjoy the ride!
  • Weight: <20g
  • New tube design features a pivot that helps follow the chainline better with 2 and 3 chainrings.
  • Universal hinge for assemble with zip ties on the chain stay or cable hinge for use with cable housing

Awesome product, Kinda pricey, but works great. JensonUSA offered the best price! After install there was no more chain slap, plus its super light. I havnt noticed any chain drag or noise either. Its really nice not having the sounds of the chain slamming everything, plus it helps to prevent derailing. Even though it easy to install, finding a good spot for it was kind of limited due to the chainstay/swing arm on my Fezzari. Due to the chainstay/swing arm angle vs. the chain angle, the chain goes though at an angle, not straight. This may not apply to all bikes, But you do have the option of flipping the rub block four ways to extend its life. It is an awesome product and I am gonna put one on every bike I get.

Riding the trails behind JensonUSA, I crossed a creek crossing with a short and narrow wood bridge that was raised enough to cause a jolt, dropped the chain on the uphill portion, and looked down and saw my chainguide was missing except for the zipties and tube. The rest of my ride turned into a hunt looking for the missing part. I didn't ride the new bike for long before installing it; riding without it, I noticed that it doesn't have that rumbling sound when pedaling. Not buying it again. Not convinced that they're necessary for my bike and it's super expensive for what it does and is.

As for CS, they only told me that I should've used loc-tite on that one tiny bolt and that they were sorry that I experienced this, referring me to the shop that I bought it from for service, who said they couldn't do anything without me having all the parts to it.

Comments about Bionicon C.Guide V.02 Chainguide:

Just took my 2011 Giant Reign 1 for a test ride along a track covered in rail line ballast that usually has my chain slapping the chain stay and jumping off the chain wheel, but this ride was near silent as the chain barely moved. There is a slight drag when pedalling but I can handle that if it means my chain will stop attacking my frame. I found that I kept the same amount of chain links with the guide installed, it makes the chain a bit tighter but if I added even one more link to the chain it becomes too long.

The installation video said it was a 10 minute job, but it took me around an hour after stuffing around with chain length and position of the guide (I have mine along side the rim, wasn't where Id planned to put it, but was where it had to go on this frame). Once on it looks great on the bike, now I just hope it is durable.

Comments about Bionicon C.Guide V.02 Chainguide:

I was using this chain guide on my mountain bike. Installation was easy. Looked good.

I ride competitively in the NICA high school MB series and MBAA series in Arizona. I installed the guide and it worked well for 2 practice rides. The third ride, the plastic component mounting to the frame disintegrated. Never made it to a race. Replaced with a second set of plastics and it didn't last 1 ride.

The idea is great, the plastic parts, not so much. Cost too much for what you get. Tried to contact manufacturer, but never received a response.

A beautifully simple idea but a bit over-priced.
I have placed it on my on-one carbon 456 with a 2*10 drive train and experienced the first ride in a longtime without dropping a chain.

3x, 2x or 1x this guide does the trick. It mounts in the chainstay and works exactly as it should. significantly reduces chain slap and dropped chains. Some reviews criticized the durability. I've only used it half a dozen rides w/o any problem so hopefully it lasts.
