This fender is an example of excellent engineering. Simple, sturdy, effective and reliable. Nothing beats permanent fenders. But if you are someone who only wants a fender when the road is actually wet, look no further. This is the second one I've bought. I lost the first one. It was in perfect working order after 3-4 years of regular commuting use. Once you adjust the strap taking it off takes an instant one handed. Putting it on is two handed 3-5 seconds.

A pretty good fender, but it doesn't really cover you. It keeps most of the mud and water off your back, but plenty still gets on your pants and feet.

Bought this for commuting in wet weather to keep from getting a mud stripe up my back.

The pros of this product are that it is easily attached/detached so if I am commuting I can quickly put it in place and when I am going for a trail ride I can quickly and painlessly remove it in seconds. It is also durable and does not seem like it would easily brake if it is leaned on or if the bike is crashed.

The biggest con to this is that the mechanism that allows this fender to be adjustable up and down slips. One would have to tighten the bolt rediculously tight (on the verge of breaking or stripping something) to keep it from moving downward everytime there is even the slightest bump in the road.

To fix the above issue I inserted two thin star type lock washers between the pieces (one on each side) and then reinserted the bolt and then set the positon and tightened the bolt...this has worked well and I have not had any issues since.

Other manufactures have taken care of this issue by serating the faces of the parts that are bolted together...SKS has not adopted this and it really comes across as a design flaw though it is easily overcome.

The strap/clamp mechanism works good and has been going strong for over 2 years of regular use...but I think the rest of the fender will outlive the nylon strap with its integrated rubber treads, it will be interesting to see if SKS will offer a replacement strap if contacted when this happens.

So far I have been satisfied with this product and would recommend it to folks looking for a fender solution for a full suspension bike.

Have used this rear fender in tandem with the SKS front fender for 10 years. Some previous reviews have stated issues with getting wet while using the fender. Here is a news flash for you...no fender is going to keep you dry under really wet conditions. This fender does keep a decent amount of water off you and keeps mud stripeing off your back plus reduces overall mud accumulation on other clothing and the bike as well. It's light weight and very durable. It can mount to tube or stem.

It does reduce the volume of water somewhat, but I have to change clothes anyway, and a lot of water on my back isn't much better than a whole lot of water on my back. I have to replace the ShockBlade that I lost on the front anyway, so I'll be looking for a more functional replacement for this one as well.
