I had this crankset for a while before I upgraded to Sram's RED crankset and although they are quite a bit heavier than the reds, I'm impressed with their performance considering the price. They felt very stiff to me and I could only tell a difference between the two when sprinting of the saddle or while climbing hills.
The major difference for me is the chainrings. The shifting on the Reds feels better and faster and I have not experienced any problems with chain suck where as with the Apex, if I didn't keep my chain and chainrings super clean and lubed, I would experience chain suck when dropping from the big to small chainring. As long as you maintain your drive train well, it shouldn't be a problem!
