Great Shorts; Perfect Fit

By wardo

from Baja Sur, Mexico

Pros

  • adjustable waistband
  • Fit
  • Zippered pocket

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Cross-country

Comments about Fox Apparel Fox Ranger Short 2012:

Fox seems to be the only manufacturer that makes ACTUAL pant-sizes instead of S, M, L, XL. But I was concerned about how these shorts would fit after reading some online reviews complaining about poor fit. Those reviews were dead wrong: they fit PERFECTLY, not just the "outer" shorts but also the padded inner-liner. For fine adjustments -- depending on how low or high you want the shorts to sit -- they also have a velcro-adjustable waistband hidden on the inside. They have 4 pockets including one zippered pocket which is great. I intend to buy another pair or two next year in a different color.

    Great Exterior, Not great pad

    By Josh

    Pros

    • Convenient pockets
    • Good Looking

    Cons

    • Expensive
    • Uncomfortable chamois

    Best Uses

Comments about Fox Apparel Fox Ranger Short 2012:

I really like the looks of these shorts. I have the 10 inch inseam, but I do wish I'd gone longer. Still, they're light and seem tough, and the pockets come in very handy.

I have had a problem with the chamois getting to be uncomfortable after about an hour or so. I've done long rides in my Cannondale and Pearl Izumi liner with no discomfort, but for whatever reason, after some time, this Fox liner starts to chafe. It seems well built, and I still wear it, just for shorter rides.

Try them on if you can. Mine ran a little small.

Comments about Fox Apparel Fox Ranger Short 2012:

Use these for XC and all mountain riding. Plenty of secure storage in the pockets. Side pockets are useful for access to Gel of and Power Bars. Light weight and detachable liners makes it breathable and versatile if you want to wear the liner with any other shorts. Sharp looking to wear causally around town.

      • Versatile

      Cons

      • Fuzz Ballspiling
      • Mediocre Chamois Pads

      Best Uses

      • Hiking
      • Trail riding
      • Working out

Comments about Fox Apparel Fox Ranger Short 2012:

I have been using two pair of these for the last two years and wear them about once to twice per week. They have held up fairly well but show fuzz balls or piling on high wear areas (thigh area). Also one pair has a small tear in the crotch seam. However, they are comfortable and are usually my go to shorts for casual trail rides or even workouts at the gym.

Good shorts, The included chamois feel a little cheap like they'll wear out pretty quick but the shorts themselves are great and super light weight with good secure pockets.

This is my favorite pair of bike shorts. I like the liner and shell as a combination, and will wear the liner as my bike shorts under rain gear for commuting. Great chamois. I rotate through 3 pairs of shorts for my commute each week, and the days when I wear these are good days. When I ride on the weekend, these are the ones I grab.

Comments about Fox Apparel Fox Ranger Short 2012:

I was in love with these things at first ride. Shell is durable and comfortable. 6 or 7 washes later, the pad in the liner has started to come unstiched. Unacceptable at this price point. What a shame because they were awsome. I still use the shell as protection for my lycra, but really disapointed they eroded so soon.
