I bought these brakes to replace a couple of V-brakes I had on my mountain bike. The installation seemed easy enough on the manual, and I followed the instructions step by step, but the rotors kept on rubbing on the pads. I tried to make adjustments but it was impossible. Come to find out, the rotor came bent, so it didn't matter how straight I got the brake, the rotor would still rub. This also prevented me from adjusting the pads as close to the rotor was possible.
I tried to ignore the rubbing and got the pads as close to the rotor as possible, but even this would not give me enough stopping power. The V-brakes I had before had more stopping power. These aren't good brakes, and the rotor for the front I ordered was defective.

This brake helped me merge old and new school technology. My old Kona Hei Hei montian bike needed resurecting which required a modern shock. I didn't want to replace my integrated XTR shifter V-brake lever to accomodate the standard disc brake on the new shock, so this cable actuated disc brake helped me merge the old with the new with an exciting result!

This brake system works very well on my custom hand built fat tire cruiser. The stopping power is impressive.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2011:
Used on a commuter/urban bike these are a major upgrade on the mechanical disks that came with the bike. Very progressive, not as immediate but use enough lever pressure and become very strong w/o the on-off the stock brakes had. Ultrasimple adjustability and pad replacement too. These older year models were very economical too. Just don't expect hydraulic brake performance with them.

This was a good upgrade from my V breaks. Much more stopping power with less effort. Setup was easy. It helped watching the YouTube video & reading how other people set theirs. Been out a few times and they are getting better each time. Mine are laced in with my Avid-7. I did opt for the 180 rotor up front. I also ran a full break housing to my rear by using a problem solver.

Avid BB7 are the best mechanical brakes you can buy. Great adjustability and they take the same pads as other avid brakes so pads can be bought cheaply & easily.

Comments about Avid BB7 Mechanical Disc Brake 2011:
Bought these to replace V-brakes on my son's Kona Lanai for Christmas. Once they "wear in", they work really well and they are very easy to adjust. They're SOOOOOO much better in wet conditions than his old V-brakes! Don't just slap them on and go to the trails. At first, you'll need to just ride around the neighborhood, braking a lot to wear them in. Going down a steep hill about 10-times while holding the brakes down a little will help wear them in faster. After this initial riding around with them, re-adjust everything, including the cables, because there will be a little cable stretch too. After this initial ride and re-adjusting, you will feel them braking better and better as they wear in even more.
