I had these brakes on my first "real" mountain bike, and they worked pretty well. They don't have enough power for one finger braking, but they get the job done and are a good brake for the money.

The good: it's a decent all around brake set at a fair price. Typical shimano quality and reliability. Instructions are decent and you get quite a lot of the extra parts you'll need to install. I was quite happy with how well everything mounted and adjusted.
The bad: adequate power but not spectacular. I chose these because I was fairly content with their performance on a new bike I own. However I rode a few extremely technical areas and it revealed some limitations. Essentially, for hard tech, you'll want something more powerful. For all around trail riding, these are a good choice.
Details: You'll need to cut the lines for an average bike. The kit comes with a new olive and barb set which is fairly easy to setup. But although the instructions say you may not have to bleed the system, you probably will. So I'd suggest order mineral oil and the funnel at the same time...or of course you could have local shop install. Otherwise they're pretty straight forward to mount up. I did have a lbs check them over to make sure I didn't screw up.
Bottom line: not bad, but I'd suggest spending a little more and get SLX or XT.
