Focus Mares AX 2.0 Cyclocross Bike
Focus supplies the bikes to the Rapha-Focus Cyclocross team, which is the home of the US National Elite Champion Jeremy Powers and U23 National Champion Zach McDonald. The race bred technology and philosophy are imbued in the Focus Mares AX 2.0 that is ready to race right out of the box.The heart of the Focus Mares AX 2.0 is the race-bred cyclocross frame that shares it’s geometry with the higher spec Focus Mares CX frames that have been used to win the 2012 US Cyclocross National Championships. Where the Focus Mares CX cyclocross bikes are constructed from carbon fiber, the Focus Mares AX 2.0 is constructed out of lightweight aluminum to maintain durability but still stay reasonably light. That is a plus to consider when you want to race hard at the weekend cyclocross race, but may also want to use your Mares AX as a commuter/touring bike. The fork on the Focus Mares AX 2.0 does benefit from the use of carbon to keep weight low and to fine tune the ride of the front end.
Hanging on the Focus Mares AX 2.0 is a well thought out package of components that will not let you down during your cyclocross race, and will keep your budget in check as well. Shimano 105 handles the shifting and gear changing on the front and rear of the bike, while the Focus Mares AX 2.0 rolls on Concept SL wheels. Stopping power starts with the comfortable Shimano 105 levers and passes through Avid Shorty 4 cantilever brakes. Focus turned to FSA for their Gossamer crank. Right out of the box the Focus Mares AX 2.0 is ready to race and doesn’t break the bank to do so. With the money you save, you can afford to pay for those entry fees or obtain an extra set of wheels to put in the wheel pit at your next race.
