The EMD 9 (Eat My Dust) might be the most affordable 29r frame available, but that doesn't mean it's not a proven high tech product. Niner started with a clean slate, choosing 7005 tubing then adding the same s-bend curves as the Air 9. This simple yet elegant design feature allows for some vertical rear wheel compliance, while maintaining drive train rigidity and efficiency. In other words it's supple and fast! To complete the frame it is then finished with same level of detail you have come to expect from Niner, including the stainless steel head badge. The head tube is reamed and faced, the bottom bracket chased and the disc tabs faced. Niner poured their heart and soul into this frame, as much as any other, and created a fun, fast and comfortable ride just for you.

I was on the fence for the AIR or the EMD, Chose the EMD just as a cost factor. I notice a difference in the rear coming from a 12x142 rear through axle on my Epic, but the geometry is so good on this bike (seems to be everyone's view of Niner geo) and I'm really pleased with the way it feels climbing, really solid. To me, it feels like a combo of two bikes I have really liked - slack head tube with a bit more upright seat tube. Using a Thomson lay back, it get a nice kill on the vibes in the trail. It responds really well on the acceleration out of corners. I had some really nice, light XO stuff, Arch wheels etc to go on this bike, so the final build is right in the 24 lb range with pedals. I was really trying to figure out my Leadville bike. This will be it.
