I confess my bias. I think Cygolite makes THE best bang for the buck lights out there. I've got three of their Hotshot tail lights (one on each bike), and their cute little Turbo 330 light resides on my wife's handlebar.
This one is a whole order of magnitude better than even those excellent lights. It has 5 settings in cycling mode: Medium>Bright>Boost>Low>Steady Pulse. Run times:
3hr. 2.5hr 1.5hr 9hr 4hr. Even just Medium is freakin' bright, trust me. Low looks to be about 300 lumens, where most commuting light start. So you've got a commuter that'll run for 9 hrs, and charge off your USB. Or you can use it on high, and light up any trail you care to ride in pitch black night...it's THAT bright. Steady pulse is useful; it has a steady setting of 300 lumens or so for lighting, plus it pulses brighter so that cars will see you night. You also have a daytime pulse setting that is unbelievably bright, a walking setting, and an SOS setting.
Here's the best part...NO FREAKIN' BATTERY PACK. The battery is a rod that fits into the light, and you charge it via a USB port in the rear. Very well made, very well thought out. Can't imagine needing anything better. Highly recommended!

This is a great light. I use it daily riding along the Greenbelt which has no lighting. I purchased an extra clamp so I can easily switch the light to whichever bike I am using. Chaging up at the office via the USB is very nice.

This light is mounted on my daily commuter bike. It is so bright, I would hate to use full power around traffic. The bright/strobe function is perfect when riding on streets at night, and even the low setting is good enough for smooth trail rides. You only need high power if in unframiliar trail conditions. For the price, its the best.
