Comments about A'me Ergo TRI Heated Lock-On Grips:
I've used these four times now in temperatures ranging from 18-30 degrees. Who really cares about weight compared to other grips, you can't put a value on feeling good, wearing the same thin gloves I wear in summertime, keeping my upper body loose. Lets just say that I used to do these cold weather rides because, since having a kiddo, you take any ride you can get...late night, early morning...there's no "waiting until it warms up a bit." Before I was using thicker winter gloves, carefully picking my way through the woods, pretty much afraid if I dumped it my whole body would shatter into a million pieces. My forearms would be juiced after the first decent downhill, and I'd miss shifts here and there because of the fumbly thick gloves. And don't cool yourself, I wasn't riding with ski gloves on, these were pearl Izumi elite barrier gloves. Flip on the heat, wear your thin summertime gloves (full finger), and make it feel like it's 30 degrees warmer out! It is so nice to have warm fingers, relaxed upper body...besides the extra clothing layers, I bet looked like I was out for a nice springtime ride! I bet that because that's what it felt like. The battery lasts about as long as it claims, I started out on level 4 and that was too hot, dropped it to level 3 after the first mile or two, and it was perfect maintenance warmth. I use carbon bars and I'm sure you would agree that anything aluminum in the cold just acts like a heat sink...so I would highly recommend carbon bars with these or you'll likely burn your battery a lot faster. I know the price tag looks ridiculous, but you'll forget that the first time you get out in sub zero temperatures and still feel like a champ. Plus, it's made in the USA, and that means a lot to me. Add to that their half price grip replacement deal, and I can't really complain at all about price. I am not a spokesperson nor affiliated with a'me but given half the chance, I would jump on board with these guys in a split second. A quality product, great customer support, the only issue you're going to have is actually getting a pair of these...as soon as a batch is ready, it's gone. If you ride at night, or don't really know the meaning of the end of the season, grab a pair of these and find out what it's like to actually enjoy riding in the winter again!
