Comments about Thomson X2 Road Stem:
I originally went with a Thomson 4x MTB stem when i built up a new carbon road frameset because I have them on other bikes and they are bullet proof. Thomson is made in the USA and exceptional quality, but I wasn't sure if the two bolt design would be secure enough, especially with carbon bars. When I needed to move the 4x to another bike I thought i'd give this one a try. Bottom line, this stem is way stronger than other stems I've tried and lighter than many others. I'm glad I went with this stem and you will too.

Comments about Thomson X2 Road Stem:
This is it, the legendary Thomson X2. Pretty dang stiff, and not the lightest, but Thomson advertisements have shown these with CARS hanging off of them with no ill effects, I think it'll hold up to bicycle use. Combined with stiff bars and a stiff headtube, you'll have a rock solid steering foundation. It's money well spent.
These have a short little stack height, so you may need an additional spacer when you install it.
As with any bicycle component, install according to manufacturers' recommendations and don't overtorque the bolts.
The X2 is a road stem, if you want a Mountain stem in more "mountain" sizes go for the X4. The X4 is also purportedly stiffer. For those interested, These don't actually start looking "long" until 120mm and above, due to the bulbous ends.
Also, if you have one of these, you better have the matching Thomson seatpost! That's just the way it works.
Comments about Thomson X2 Road Stem:
I have the 120mm -10 degree. Replaced a Ritchey WCS stem with this one on my CAAD9 and instantly noticed a stiffer front end. I used to think the C'dale full carbon forks were flexy, but realized it was the stem all along. I am a climbing specialist (6' tall, 154lbs). I will be purchasing more of these stems for my 'cross and carbon road bikes. The 'heavy' 149 grams is well worth it. It's a piece of art. Buy Thomson seatposts too
Comments about Thomson X2 Road Stem:
the stem looks very slick and really locks down on the fork and bars. I think if you were buying a 90 or 80mm stem you wouldn't have any problems at all. I wouldn't recommend this at the longer length for riders who like pulling the bars during climbs.
Comments about Thomson X2 Road Stem:
While it's expensive, I feel it's worth every penny. I think it's rare to find great design and great quality so clearly represented in one component. I highly recommend this stem.
