I have one installed...
I have one installed on a Marzocchi fork and it works great! It has not came loose and headset preload is easy! Trust me it is worth the money. Get one with your next fork purchase!

Works exactly as described! Slots in and tighten down you can't go wrong. Much better solution than a star nut.

Cool product
Cool product - I have a star-nut setter, but when you're still figuring out steerer tube length, use this instead. Also, you can remove it easily and transfer it to a different bicycle if needed.

PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install, Lightweight

Best $22 I've Ever Spent!
This device works brilliantly. A set of instructions likely would have headed off many of the negative reviews. I found it very easy to install after spending a couple of minutes completely disassembling it to make sure I understood how it worked.

PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install, Lightweight, Durable

CONS: No instructions

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Upgrade

Worked perfectly!
I wanted an alternative to a star nut and this worked flawlessly! I followed the instructional video on youtube and it just slid right in. There is a rubber ring that prevent it from just falling straight through, and lets you position it. Then you just tighten it up and it expands to fit the tube.

Another great bonus, is that the thread for the cap seems to be identical to a standard star nut. I preferred the top cap that came with my bike, so I just screwed that into the head doctor.

Notes:
1. I measured the inside diameter of my steerer tube (1 1/8") it and is right around 1" and this fit well. If the inside diameter was a little tighter you should still be able to squeeze it in. So if you have a alloy tube with thicker walls you might have a harder time fitting it.

2. Follow the instructional video. You need to loosen the expanding bolt slightly before inserting it. Or you might run into fit problems like other people had. You should not need a mallet to insert it.

Way better than star nuts
I like to swap forks on a fairly frequent basis and star nuts are a pain to source and install.

The Head Doctor is easy to install and easy to remove.

I like it so much I purchased a second one so I can have one installed in my backup fork and ready to go.

Two tips for the Head Doctor - grease the internal threads when you get it (not the external surfaces of the unit itself) and you don't need a whole lot of torque on the top cap when installing it.

Works fine
I'm not sure why other people are having trouble with this, but I found it dead easy to use.

Not really any better than a star fangled nut, but it's pretty and still effective.

A bit tricky
Star nuts work great, but the removable nature of the Head Doctor is really nice when determining what steerer tube you want on your fork. Once you've got the steerer dialed, star nuts are probably better, frankly. The Head Doctor requires periodic removal and re-tightening. If you're running a carbon steerer, and you need a compression device the Head Doctor is one of the best available. For instance FSA's offering just doesn't get tight enough.

maybe worth it?
I don't know why but this would not fit in the steerer of my fox 40 with Risse clamps. Maybe the Risse steerer is thicker? I don't know but I spent 2 hours machining the tapered spacers down to make it all fit and work, now that it is in there it seems to work fine.

PROS: great concept, Looks great, Easy to use

CONS: Seems To Have Fit Issues, Had To Machine Down

Buy Just Cap and Bolt If You Can Find It!!!!
Sure it looks pretty but darn near impossible to install. Brand new RockShox Lyrik fork, required far too many hammers for a job so simple. Once installed less than impressed with its function. No different than the $1.99 star nut. If you want the name and color (Yep I bought it to match my Hope hubs, Hope pedals, Hope seat clamp etc.), find the cap and bolt and it will serve the same purpose.

I am having trouble to fit in my compressor in my 1-1/8" road bike carbon fork, will this be able to solve my problem since i assume that the diameter of this compressor is smaller than what's needed to be use for road bike fork compressor? Thank you

BEST ANSWER: Hi there, I have the Head Doctor on my Manitou Marvel Pro Forks which is also 1 1/8 in diameter and it fits fine. Just ensure it is not expanded when you insert. Remember this item is to be used to cover the end of the fork on the stem side.
