Featuring a redesigned piston, lever and pivot assembly, the 2012 Tech Evo X2 has a fantastically smooth and consistent feel. A slightly shortened lever translates into a 15% increase in power and perforations add grip and control. It also features a double sided reservoir lid for easy bleeding. The X2 caliper features an increased piston diameter, generating more usable braking force on the rotor. Hope Tech has also added a drip free nipple and wide angle orientation of the fluid inlet connector for neater hose routing and cleaner servicing.

Awesome brakes. Power is more than adequate for XC/AM and modulation is absolutely incredible. Bleeding them is a breeze and they look like a million bucks. Tried them with Ashima rotors and was underwhelmed, so I went with Hope floating rotors and sintered pads and that brought them to life.

This is my first set of hydraulics so I have nothing to compare them to except the Avid BB7 mechanicals. Overall they are very well built with everything being cast out of aluminum. No plastic anywheres.
Center marks are engraved on the caliper making centering them over the rotor very simple to get them 95% accurate. Now to get them 100% centered with no rubbing you forced one piston back while pumping hte lever to force the opposite piston out. This shifts everything in one direction or the other till your 100% centered. The online videos form hope are great and the manual isn't, but refers you to their online videos.
My Avid mechanicals had the pad positioning knobs that you turn to move the pads in and out for adjustment. Overall a great concept, but you still couldn't get a 100% setup. The pads wouldn't retract equally, etc... These Hopes are setup perfectly on brand new pads that have minimal clearance, I'm saying around 1/10mm and it was so easy to get a prefect setup.
If they can stay this way with no rubbing and adjustments required throughout several rides it would be amazing. The brake lever also has 2 adjustments for reach and preload. Both work very good. The 2012 model has the beefed up lever and pivots for 15% more power and I can attest to this. The lever is very solid. I also got the braided Goodridge hoses which are nice.
Compared to Formula and Avid Elixir 9's these are cheaper. No rotor is included which is a plus since you match the floating rotors/adapters required for your custom setup.

if you are gonna get new brakes this is it. Awesome braking power, excellent modulation. I had 3 different Avid brakes and they cannot even be compared to this brakes. The Formula RX's of my friends also have awesome braking power but does not modulate as well as this brakes. Great aesthetics too, bling bling!!! The only negative thing i can say is that you have to use a matchmaker/shifter adapter so that the shifters will fit perfect, and the new shimano 2012 XT does not have a matchmaker, have to get the previous model XT or an XTR shifter. Even with that negative note, that wont deter me from buying it. Now buy the brakes, don't even think about it. You'll love it!!!
