KS Eten Remote Seatpost

KS eTen Remote Seatpost

The Kind Shock eTen Remote Seatpost combines value and performance. Kind Shock is the first to admit that they produce the most expensive seatpost on the market, but they haven’t abandoned their fans on a budget. The eTen seatpost doesn’t compromise quality but does shed price. By taking advantage of proven processes, Kind Shock is able to produce a value dropper seatpost. This eTen model uses a Remote to actuate the dropper. The eTen is available in 31.6mm and 30.9mm. The eTen has features and quality that surpasses rival posts at half the cost.

Spend more. Weak and prone to failure.
I think many of these reviews were made in the honeymoon phase of having their first dropper post. I loved this thing too at first. It made my seat go up and down at the push of a button for half the price of all the other ones! Until it didn't. After fixing this thing for the fourth time I decided to upgrade to something that cost a bit more. One of the main flaws is how the actuator is open to the elements. Any grime, sand, mud that gets into the area under your seat post will quickly make this thing stop working. Internal routing has mostly fixed this problem with most droppers and frames. If your frame can take internal routing, GET THAT KIND. To help battle this issue you could retrofit a tube around the actuator or make some sort of boot for it, but it seems to still not completely fix the issue. The way the lever pulls the cable seems to be really prone for sticking and I had to replace the cable often. All of these little problems seem to be perpetuated by the general weakness of the raising action. If the seatpost had a more powerful action I dont think tiny amounts of friction in the remote or actuator would cause it to completely stop working. And my final gripe is the minimal travel. 100mm is better than nothing but for a medium sized man was not enough to really feel like I could slam my seat for gnarly descents. You may be somewhat tickled by the product at first, it does a very cool thing, but instead of a half measure, just spend more and get something that works better.

Hard to beat at this price!!!
I've always wanted to jump on the dropper post wagon bit the price has always been too high for what I wanted to spend. The KS Eten is priced just right for what a dropper post is worth to me. Keep in mind that this is the first dropper I've ever used but I think the only places it's lacking compared to its bigger brothers is weight and only having one bolt to secure the saddle (who cares??? It still offers forward and rear tilt angle). Since this is the only dropper I've ever used, I have no idea how much heavier it is. I can tell you it is heavier than my standard aluminum post that it replaced (duh).

As far as installation goes, it is pretty straight forward aside from the fact that the instructions are almost non-existent. Everything you need to install the post comes with the kit aside from extra wire ties to route the remote cable back to your dropper.

Functionality speaking, I love how the adjustment throughout the 100mm of travel are infinite. Meaning you can position the post at any desired height throughout the travel of the post. Simply push the remote to disengage the post, put weight on your seat, and then depress the remote to lock it into place. Simple and sweet. The post holds firm at any given length you lock it into. There is a little side-to-side play with the saddle and coming from a person that is super picky with seat positon, you can take my thoughts on this to the bank... You can't notice it while you ride! The speed at which the post returns the saddle is fast but not super fast. I've seen a specialized post that can launch things off of it like a catapult. It's nowhere near as fast but still gets your seat back into position in a hury w/out the potential of racking your bits.

All-in-all you really can't ask for a better post at this price. It's smooth and reliable functionality are all you really need. That combined with its durability in regards to holding up the riders weight are fantastic. I'm an aggressive XC rider that likes to dabble in AM as well. This thing seems to be doing the trick so far. I agree with others that once you go with a dropper, you'll never go back!!!

One last thing, I do wish this post was a tad longer (400mm as opposed to 385mm). Male sure you measure your current post to ensure you'll have enough height past the recommended max height on this product.

PROS: Versatile, Affordable, Attractive Design, Works great, Easy To Install

CONS: Poor Instructions, Somewhat heavy

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Upgrade

Post starts to sag when weight is placed on it
You really can't beat the price but maybe that has something to do with the quality?

6 months into owning the post when you have it in a full drop setting then have the post come back up, if you put any weight on it within the first 10 seconds it will drop down about 2" before it stops dropping any further.

If you count to 10 before sitting back down the post doesn't move and works fine.

I've had this post now for 1.5yrs and so long as I count its fine but man is that annoying.

PROS: Remote, Price

CONS: No Longer Functioning

Nice and simple
Does as it should. Easy to set up, cable actuated damper. Slot it in and off you go. Single bolt clamp allows some play in the saddle, but the build quality is excellent.

PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install

CONS: Limited Compatibility

Straight forward, too much or not enough wire for my bike.
Install was straight forward. There was not enough wire to run on the downtube so I had to run it on the upper tube - 2013 Salsa Horsetheif. Just don't cut it too short or you'll have a poor time pulling the seat off for adjustments.

Heavy - but for 140, if it fails in two years - like the rest of them - then you can just get another.

Worth every penny
Bought this for my wife after she took a clinic from Lee McCormack. It was a breeze to install, the only thing I had to do was make her press the lever all the way down while I tightened the nut under the seat.

- It is as buttery smooth as my Thompson Elite dropper
- 100mm of travel is perfect for her (she is 5'6")
- The front side cable routing is very cleanly out of the way

Cons (not really cons, just mentioning them)
- "only" 100mm of travel
- The lever IS NOT compatible with ODI grips (or any grips, for that matter). You will have to make a spot for it, but its the perfect time for you to go 1x anyway... right?
- There is only one bolt holding the seat on, meaning it your seat will not have a tilt adjustment. Not a con, it was perfectly level for my install... just worth mentioning.

Again, I run a Thompson Elite dropper and I wouldnt hesitate to get a KS Eten as my next one. Great lever feel, smooth action, raises nice and easy, and the price is perfect.

PROS: Easy To Install, Durable

Works as advertised!
This seat dropper is great! The problem was the installation. There are no directions and the remote clamp screw is not long enough. I'm riding with a loose remote until I find a screw that's long enough to replace it.

CONS: Difficult To Install

Great value
Works like the high end posts for a third of the price. No options on size, but size works fine for most. Remote breaks easily but KS does offer other options.

PROS: Easy To Install, Price, Smooth Operation

CONS: Remote Is Weak

Anyone know the length of the section that inserts into the seat tube for the 100mm travel model? Thanks.
RB on Apr 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Uhhh BTW if you could be bothered enough to look at EVERYTHING that the dropdown bar for "Options" says then you would see the varying lengths.
What is the minimum and maximum insertion length for the 385mm overall length post?

BEST ANSWER: Internal cable routing The cable comes out of the bottom of the seat post rather than right under the seat but you can shoehorn the cable through the lower screwhole for the water bottle mount on the seat tube if your bike does not have internal cable routing features
Does the saddle clamp drop all the way down to the bottom?
Paul on Oct 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This seat post only stops at the collar that you see in the picture. This is not a full drop style post, but depending on your type of riding, it could work. I ride mostly CC to medium DH stuff and so it drops just low enough to get your seat out of the way, for me. Bottom line.... I'm happy I got it. I wasn't willing to pull the trigger on all the other expensive ones.
Hope this info helps, and best wishes on your shopping venture.
Does it come with the seat clamp?
Danny L on Jul 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No I used the clamp that was already on bike which worked out great. It does come with a plastic cable guide that attaches to the post (or frame) using zip ties which works very well.
Do you need a suspension pump to set the pressure?
A shopper on Aug 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, it's a hydraulic unit, no pressure setting involved. It is a dropper post, not a suspension post. It only changes saddle height on the fly when you press the lever.
Does this come with remote?

Does the KS eTen Dropper seatpost include all of the necessary parts for installation and use?

Joe on Jul 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Everything. I installed a Hope seat post clamp with cable guide. Routed the cable close to the frame.
