Kona Honky Tonk Bike 2015

Kona Honky Tonk Bike 2015

A classic steel road bike for the modern age

There’s just something about the clean lines and unfailing peace of mind one can only get from a steel frame. Like any sweet steely should, the Kona Honky Tonk allows you to ride anywhere, anytime, with a personality and ride quality that’s both liberating and easy on the eye. Through its clever figure and Reynolds 520 tubing, the Honky Tonk employs proven design features and a road endurance geometry that keeps the rider in a more upright, comfortable position for the long haul. On this classic steed with the road passing under you, chances are you’ll often find yourself riding along with no hurry and no worry.

We like the Honky Tonk for its sheer simplicity and versatility. It's a true all-seasons bike that doesn't shy from the elements. Rainy outside? Throw on some fenders. Konda designed the frame and fork with tons of space and medium reach brakes to fit big tires without fenders or smaller tires with fenders. Don't worry about ride comfort. Potholes and bad city roads are no issue with the comfy steel and big tires. Want to go shred some dirt? Throw on some cyclocross tires and have at it. From offroad adventures to winter training to commuting, the Honky Tonk is the answer to those who really want their road bike to do it all.

The Kona Honky Tonk is perfect for commuters who brave the elements year-round and aren’t afraid of the unpredictable weather and street conditions ahead of them. It features long reach calipers for impressive tire clearance up to a 35c, making it a versatile ride that can be accommodated to your riding style. The frame was designed with comfort in mind to allow you to ride this bike for hours on end with ease. Roll up your pants and grab your wind breaker, cause you’re about to go out on a ride you won’t soon forget.

Features:

  • Reynolds 520 Butted Cromoly construction is more resilient and lightweight compared to standard steel frames
  • Kona Road Endurance geometry is more comfortable and more predictable for longer rides

Incredible value - fun, comfortable bike
I LOVE this bike. My Kona Honky Tonk arrived on the estimated ship date. It was nicely packaged - nearly fully assembled and already tuned. All I had to do was attach the handlebars, wheels, and hang the rear derailleur by turning one bolt, and I was ready to ride. I thought the packaging was clever - everything was protected, padded, and secured within the box so things could not move around or scratch the frame. After the minimal assembly, the only thing I wound up doing was sliding the seat back just about 1/4 inch along the rails to customize the fit and make it perfect. After I received the bike, I took it for rides for three days in a row, and with each ride I love this bike more and more. I am used to a lighter, stiffer, racier road bike, but have been sick of getting jarred to death on every ride, so I deliberately purchased this heavier, more relaxed road bike - and the difference in ride quality is remarkable. This isn't a bike to win road races, but it is an incredibly fun and comfortable bike for commuting, light touring, brew pub crawls, charity rides, or hitting the bike trails with friends of family. I had noticed in various reviews of the Honky Tonk on other sites several people had commented that rear shifts were quick and sharp, but front shifts were neither smooth nor quick. My experience is different - I have found both rear and front shifts to be quite quick, smooth, and precise, which was a pleasant surprise given my expectations for the Sora front derailleur based on several reviews. Overall -- THRILLED with the purchase - easy ordering, great price, convenient and good shipping...and a wonderful bike!

Very nice bike at a great price.
This Shimano-equipped, steel road bike was very carefully packed and required only the mounting of the quick release wheels, mounting of the bars onto the already attached stem and inserting and tightening the seat post. I mounted the bike on the stand to check the derailleurs and found they needed no adjustment.

Great training bike
I'm a mountain biker but have a really hard time getting to the trail more than once or twice a week with two little ones. I was hesitant about a full on road bike for training but this Honky Tonk is amazing. I can get out and see some scenery, do interval work, or just cruise to the tavern on this guy. LOVE it.

2015 Tonk
As an ex-everyday commuter I would definitely recommend this bike. The Tonk rides comfortably and smooth. Jenson had one in my size for $200 less than the next guy. Without Memorial Day the bike would have gotten to me in a week. Great value for what it is.

Liked it so much I bought two!
This bike is such a great value at this price. The steel frame provides a great ride.

I also have a carbon road bike and an aluminum one, both more expensive than this bike. This one is starting to seem the most fun, though. I set it up with flat pedals as a "just ride" and bike party bike, and have been commuter. I replaced the saddle with a Brooks Cambium. The only other thing I want to change are the Sora shifters, but they do work fine. The shifter cable come out the the side of the shifters and run across out in front of the bars, instead of under the bar tape, which I prefer.

I live and work in California, but sometimes fly to visit my parents back home in Washington state. I was so happy with the first bike, and how it arrived packaged from Jenson, that I ordered a second one to keep at my parent's house.

If you want a fun and durable basic road bike, at a great price, get one of these!

For the price it's a steal
The bike is awesome for the sale price I purchased it at ($650) Super supple ride a bit heavy the componetry is on the cheaper side front derailleur takes a second to engage the brake pads kind of suck other than that it's durable and precise paint job is good welds are nice it's a pleasure to ride I'm used to riding an aluminum rocky mountain fusion with slicks and I wanted to try out a steel road bike I'm glad I did this bike is faster and more comfortable As much as I hate the douche bags that say steel is real I have admit they are correct It most definitely is the sh## Also I must add that after I first purchased it the price dropped $50 the next day and Jenson gave me the new sale price after I emailed them Good customer service

Does the bike come with the fork steerer tube cut or uncut?
Kyle M on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Mine came just like in the photo, with no cutting necessary. The stem is pretty short. I'm 5'11" with long legs/short torso, and the 56 cm frame is a great fit.
Does the frame have braze ons for rear or front racks? What's the biggest tire with fenders?
Brian M on Aug 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: How muchEnter an answer to this question.
What is the largest size width of tire this bike can handle?
jandro on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello Alexander,
While we haven't tested max tire clearance on this bike ourselves, we have read of many people being able to fit around a 38-40c tire in the frame/fork. I hope that helps.

What size in a Large ? This bike shows sizes in CM on Kona site . I need a 56 .
bill on Jul 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: "Large" means many things. The geometry specs are listed in cm, so take a look at the geometry chart under the specification table.
You list the sizes for this bike as S/M/L/XL but there are specific sizes like 49, 51, etc. Can you let me know which is which?

Thanks!
