Comments about Mavic Crossmax ST Wheels 2013:
These wheels look great and at 1590 grams, the wheels are very light. I found the acceleration to be very quick and yet they seem to absorb most of the imperfections in the road.
The ITS-4 freewheel system used on rear wheel, transferred almost all of my leg power directly to the wheels. Very useful in races, as getting a quick start could put you ahead of your competition.
While the rims are on the narrow side at 19mm but I was pleased to find that my 26 x 2.1 tires fit with no problems. According to Mavic's website the recommended tire size widths are from 1.5 to 2.3 inches. Not having to deal with rim tape was another advantage of Mavic's new Fore system of pushing an indentation into the rim - instead of drilling through the rim.
The wheelset package that arrived included just about every adaptor you could ever need and included valve stems for use with UST tubeless tires.
On the down side, the wheel instructions are dated and not that clear. The instructions include rim tape fitment and there is no rim tape used with their new Fore system. Many of the parts contain added instructions and diagrams, so I was able to figure everything out but it took a while longer than it would have if the overall instructions were a bit clearer.
Overall, these Mavic wheels look fantastic and put a smile on my face every time I use them.
