Picked up these bars as an addition to a single-speed commuter. The frame is a 1970s vintage Raleigh, and I wanted to keep the original stem because it has a really cool embossment from back when Raleigh still made these bikes in the U.K. Trouble is the old-school stem has a 1-inch clamp that doesn't fit most modern bars. The old bars were ridiculously narrow--less than shoulder width--and made the overall ride feel unstable. Enter the Nitto Classic, and problem solved. Small enough to fit the 1-inch clamp but with the width I've gotten used to from my regular roadie. It's solidly made and the price is right. If you're looking to drop every ounce from your ride, this isn't for you. But if the look matters and the old-school compatibility counts, this does the job.

i was sold on this product because the brakes could be installed so that it forms a straight ramp from the bar tops, in a sense, modern day comfort from a classic looking part. however the length of the reach has messed with my stem choice. i now find the brakes too far away. i've moved from a 120mm to a 80mm and seem somewhat happy but when you have a quill stem, swapping stems out is not funny.

I was using these bars for commuting and long rides on the weekends and started to experience back and neck problems. The drops are quite deep (140 mm). Made the switch to a Rando bar and all my problems were solved. Great bars but might not be the best choice for long distance riding.
