The Panaracer FireXC Pro is an older tire now but it still performs well. They are a lower volume tire in the modern tire world (they were not at release time) so compared to a Nevegal or Continental of comparable size you will need to run with more pressure and a harder ride. They are also narrower than most of the modern 2.1 tires.

The performance is great - I feel every bit as good as Nevegals. They have better puncture resistance than Nevegals as well.

Ultimately, the FireXC is a tire whose "prime" time has come and gone but that doesn't stop it from being a solid performer as it has always been.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:

I have ridden on Panaracer tires for over 24 years and these specific XC Pro Kevlar bead tires for over 15 years. I just bought another set to finally replace my worn out ones. They simply last and last and with the exception of heavy mud/caliche, they perform very well in almost all conditions. Adjusting the pressure for the conditions really brings out the awesome performance capability.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:

I have had 2 sets of these tires. I got about 1500 miles out of my first set, riding about 75% on the road (commuting), and 25% all-mountain riding. These are long-lasting tires with very good grip on the pavement and on trails. They are good on hardpack, mud, rocks, and over small roots. The only place these tires are lacking is when it comes to gravel/loose rock. These tires are a proven design, and are WELL WORTH the higher cost that they usually command.

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:

Love the versatility of these tires. The trails around here have a pretty big variety of dirt, from sand to gravel to mud to rocks. These tires with a pound or two adjustment of pressure in the tubes conquer it all, except for climbs with heavy mud where deeper grooves and larger knobbies would be better. Not sure I would trust the front on an aggressive downhill, either, for the same reason - a more appropriate tire with larger side plugs would be better.

I ride my bike on mixed trails and road almost every day. These tires have low rolling resistance, good traction, and last a long time. This is my second pair. The first pair lasted more than 3 years of steady riding!

Comments about Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire:

I researched and researched the top name tires and decided on the Nevegal lite for my front tire and a Panaracer XC Fire Pro for the rear...I was going to put them the other way around, but after looking at the Panaracer's aggressive tread design and knobby side treads I put that in the back. It is a uni-directional tire. After adjusting tire pressure to my liking (which made a HUGE difference), I could not be happier. It has only been 3 weeks or so, but so far the Panaracer is holding up great. I had Nevegal 2.0s front and rear, which came with the bike (KHS 535 dual suspension) and was quite happy with them. I wanted to try something a bit different and settled on the above combo for my 3-4 day a week 45 min-1.5 hour rides. I would recommend this tire for cross country riding. So far, it handles techie sections quite well...rocks, roots, wet, muddy, leaves and such without too much of an issue, although I am getting a bit of side deflection which I think is due to the side knobs. The deflection is only momentary and the tire hooks right back up. This only happens on some roots, some rocks and the occasional tree limb if they are at just the right angle. Uphill climbs are inspiring and only limited to my skill level...the tires are far better than I am!

I have seen these tires for years! I finally found them at a good price from Jenson! I love them! The OE tires that came on my Giant were weak! So I went for the panaracer in hopes that they would do the job and they did!! Very good on climbs and tight turns.

Had Kenda small block eights. Good tires but didn't work good for me on the type of trails I ride which are covered with loose stuff over hard pack. The Panaracer works a whole lot better. Of course there is more rolling resistance but the feel of being more secure is more important to me. I would recommend this tire for this type of terrain. Oh yeah, the red sidewalls look cool also!
