My bike came with Micheline tires. I would be safe to say that theu are a bench mark product for all other tires to be judged against. They were good and fast but not long lived. not my favorite on wet roots either. The Fire XC Pros were a definite step up from the Michelines. Big River is famous for long stretches of fast "Rollers" with Bermed turns. This part of RI is made of swampy low lands and what ever was left over from the last Ice Age. You get quite the geological mix of riding conditions that change with the weather. The XC Pros ate this up in great fashion. A great tire like this instills confidence. The down side is that, at a certain point, the tire could not hold up to the "Flogging" I was giving them. You need to run the preasure as low as you can in Big River for the roots. Fly into a rock garden with the wrong preasure, death is waiting for you. Despite this, I give them a good pinch flat rating. I just finished one ride too many with the tube coming through the tire, wher a lug use to be.

The Panaracer FireXC Pro is an older tire now but it still performs well. They are a lower volume tire in the modern tire world (they were not at release time) so compared to a Nevegal or Continental of comparable size you will need to run with more pressure and a harder ride. They are also narrower than most of the modern 2.1 tires.
The performance is great - I feel every bit as good as Nevegals. They have better puncture resistance than Nevegals as well.
Ultimately, the FireXC is a tire whose "prime" time has come and gone but that doesn't stop it from being a solid performer as it has always been.

along with other riders, i would have to agree that there is no such thing as a tire that excels at everything. however, the panaracer does do a good job at being descent on pretty much any type of riding except for in wet conditions. low rolling resistance, and a good tread pattern for xc. get this if you want something that can do any dry riding.

These things really surprised me with the grip in mud. Yet after a year there are dry cracks on the sidewalls and many knobs on the side have fallen off.

Great Tire. I use these exclusively in Indiana.
Hooks amazingly. I was getting tired of pushing the limit and washing out on my murano raptors. So I put a nevegal on front 2.35. I decided to go with something on the thinner side. I put these babies on and forget it. What a world of difference.... I am a complete fan of this tire and recommend it.
Before I bought this I kept having my tires slide out from under me on turns. Got these as a suggestion from my local bike shop, haven't looked back since. Great traction!!! I'm able to hit the turns harder, and faster and still hold like I'm on a rail. Great for loose surfaces. Climbs great. Road a little on the road and they're a bit noisy and you'll feel a bit more resistance but it's worth it once you're on the trails.
Great, love this tire and will buy again. Looks good on the bike, red tire matches my front fork. Sheds mud very well.
overall a great tire worth the minor sacrifices you make. its light and digs in for XC climbs and lighter AM riding. I have been riding them hard on pavement and trail and they have not worn very much. Not the best for really wet conditions but if you run a little less air it helps. dont buy the cheap knock offs from xyz.com, they are much heavier
i highly recommend these. if they work well in snow they should be able to handle anything in the summer time.
Have used these tires over the past year in the dry dusty trails of NorCal, then recently moved to wet and rainy Juneau AK, tires still perform well. Dont grip to wet logs/roots well, but wet rocks haven't been an issue. Remain very stable at high speed cornering. I had only 1 spill last season, but it was 25+ on a very loose banked decline, so I wouldn't necessarily blame the tires. Overall good experiences.
