This newer Park Tool Chain measurer works way better than the old dial one they used to have. It's a simple go or no-go design. Saved me from replacing a chain I was unsure about on a used bike purchase. Something every toolbox should have.

this tool works great for checking chain wear if you are a serious cyclist this is something you must have to check chain stretch. Doing so regularly will assure that you catch elongation before it damages the cassette and chain-rings.

Easy to use & will save you money by knowing when to change your chain; which can also save you on having to replace the cassette. If you let the chain get too worn then your cassette is also getting prematurely worn & will have to be repalced. This no longer happens to me as I now check my chain periodically along with keeping it cleaned & lubed properly.

This is cheap and easy enough to use. I used to just replace chains 'when I figured they were starting to wear out' in order to keep my expensive cassettes from wearing prematurely. I picked up one of these a few years ago and it seems to work well. I check my chains with this tool periodically when cleaning my bikes up and am surprised how long they last. Recently, the chain on my Giant Anthem X was making some weird noises so I checked it with the chain tool and found that it was worn. I replaced it, the skipping sound went away and the new chain shifts perfectly on the old cassette...just what I wanted; a cheap tool to tell me when a chain was worn without ruining the cassette (that chain lasted around 800 miles of hard Colorado off road riding). If you put a lot of hard miles on your bikes, and like to do your own wrenching, this is an essential tool to have.
