I prefer these over shimano's SPD system. I have heard they need to be re-built every season, I am 200lbs and they are still solid after two seasons. Only complaint is there is no platform and if you miss clipping in your feet can roll off, but Crank Bros makes pedals with platforms if you are concerned about rolling off these guys.

I took the plunge and swapped out my old Ritchey red pedals and went with the Egg Beater. As of 500 miles I will not consider another off-road pedal. I have raced with these in dry and muddy conditions. The mud performance was interesting because I never thought about it until it was over. Chicks dig'm. But alas, these will not provide an acceptable cup of joe.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
