Yes, these are heavy tubes, but I have only gotten one flat since I started using them, and no tube would have prevented that one. I've had them installed on a road bike with Continental Ultra Sport 700x28 tires for over a year, and have been through several sets of tires without having to replace the tubes. In my opinion, I'd rather ride with a little extra weight to allow more time in the saddle, and less time fixing flats.

I've got these on my cyclocross/commuter bicycle & I'd be amazed if I ever get a flat. These are really heavy duty tires that are thick & heavy rubber.
