Raleigh Willard 2 Road Bike 2015

The Ramblin’ Rider

Though having multiple bikes has its perks, it also means more maintenance and having to limit your ride to the matched terrain. This is where having a multi-surface bike like the Raleigh Willard 2 comes in handy. Not married to neither the pavement nor the dirt, the Willard 2 road bike is a lightweight, do-all bike that encourages new routes and spontaneous detours.

Through its aluminum frame, upright geometry, and beastly 40c tires, the Willard offers a smooth, stable ride quality that’ll keep you pedaling in comfort over the long haul. Looking to the build, the TRP mechanical disc brakes are a surefire improvement from conventional rim brakes, translating to more confidence in your stopping power which is much needed when you’re loaded up and pointed down a steep and dirty descent. The Shimano 105 drivetrain may not be as shiny as Dura-Ace or Ultegra, but with its seamless combination of reliability and durability, it’s the prefect groupset for the wandering rider.

Raleigh Willard 2 Features:

  • Alloy Frame is lightweight yet ready for anything it encounters.
  • Slacker head angle and longer chainstays offer stability at higher speeds and improved climbing traction.
  • Shimano 105 11 speed drivetrain, disc brakes and Clement X'PLOR MSO 40c tires work seamlessly together to tame any terrain.
  • Rack and fender mounts make it easy to load up and pedal your way to adventure.

Raleigh

Raleigh has been building some of the finest bikes for over 3 centuries. That makes them the longest continuously-operating bicycle manufacturer in the world. Raleigh as a brand has spanned some serious history and we know that doesn’t happen as a result of delivering mediocre product. They create bikes with a purpose and an intent that is relevant to us, the customers, and how we are using and experiencing these mechanical wonders that are bikes. The first Raleigh models rolled out in 1885 England amongst the horses and steam engines of the time which brought increased mobility and freedom to many individuals. Raleigh, today, still develops their product around the idea that bikes are fun, convenient and practical.

Great Ride!
Great service as always from Jenson. After waiting for a bike to ship for over a week from Backcountry I cancelled the order and placed one for the Willard. It was at my door in 3 days.

Outstanding Adventure Bike!
The bike arrived in great shape due to the robust packaging. I attached the bars, saddle, pedals, rear derailleur, and wheels. The only adjustment I had to perform was to center the calipers after attaching the wheels--that was easy to do on the stand. I appreciate the assembly and adjustment before shipment, and the heavy duty packaging.

100mi of MO gravel
I bought this bike mostly as a commuter since my roadbike (CAAD12) doesn't have rack or fender mounts. Inspired by getting a gravel bike, I decided to ride the 100mi Cuban Gravel Crisis ride in the Ozarks. Other than a flat tire from dodging a deer, everything worked perfect. Four days out of the box, minimal adjustments, and everything works great after 7hrs of gravel? Couldn't have asked for more.

Survived 100mi of Missouri gravel
I bought the bike mostly for commuting, but figured I'd give it a run on the gravel. It arrived on a Tuesday, I did a few minor adjustments, rode it about 40mi and then did the nasty Cuban Gravel Crisis ride in rural Missouri. The roads varied from packed gravel, to large crushed stone, to soupy mush. The bike was amazing. After seven hours the wheels were true, shifting crisp, and the brakes flawless. Couldn't be happier.

Purchased the fat tire Raleigh on a bit of an impulse after a winter wipe out on my carbon road bike. Some reviews trash talk the 700x40s. They are a little chubby compared to 700x23s, and at 60 vs 130 psi, peddling is heavier. But this is a no brainer. Overall quality for the price is very good. It's really a fun bike to ride. Road gears, beefy tires for less friendly terrain, disk brakes stop well in wet conditions, really like the seat, and Shimano 105 is a worthy standard. Sure, you can spend more and get better, but the bottom line is this is a very good investment for the cash outlay. It's a supplemental ride in my stable, and an enjoyable one.

Incredible deal for a do it all bike with great components.
I have been eying the Raleigh Willard since it was first introduced. I have a Raleigh Roper that I used for commuting but I wanted a dedicated CX / gravel machine for racing, training and dirt road fondos common in New England. The Riper is perfect - light, comfortable, and with a FULL 11-speed 105 group set including cranks, and the excellent TRP Spyre disc brakes. My first ride was 29 miles of single track and fire roads with 4 inches of new snow on an icy base. I use 45NRTH Gravdal spike tires (38mm) and still had room for a rear fender to keep the winter slip off. This was a very technical, tricky ride and the bike performed flawlessly. Finally, Jenson's packing job was top notch and the build was perfect - did not need to adjust the brakes nor shifters.

New fun on the dirt roads
The Raleigh Willard is a great bike for the dirt roads of north Florida and south Georgia. The bike has opened up new opportunities for riding. All of the components work perfectly. I am particularly appreciative of the 40 mm tires. Pretty quiet and smooth on the pavement and great on the dirt.

Cassette gear range?

BEST ANSWER: Just bought this bike. Cassette is 11 - 28.
Is it tubeless compatible?
A shopper on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, I do not believe that the stock Weinmann wheelset is tubeless compatible. For this price, however, this bike is a well worth it. I'd take the savings over a 2017 Willard 2 and put it towards a tubeless wheelset. You'll still come out ahead, as the 2015 model is a bit lighter and preferred over the later model.
