I purchased this to replace my old one that was smashed between the frame and spokes, so th eold one actually never failed and I had it for 7 years and it saw 3 frames.
I like the inverted derraillours because they shift very nice on the hills to a lower cog.

Looks nice, was a good deal and works alright, but this thing is heavy. I suspect it will be quite durable, but again this is not for the weight conscious.
Installed the LX and went on a 30km XC ride. The virtues of the low normal set up became obvious during the first tough climb. I was able to shift into a lower gear effortlessly - usually I would be trying to down-shift under increased chain tension. This enabled me to enjoy the ride and not worry about being caught out in the wrong gear. The LX is a well-constructed piece of gear and is a steal at the price. Highly recommended.
I love this derailleur on the uphill because of the ease with which it climbs to lower gears. On the down, however, it is the noisiest, most annoying derailleur I've had over the past six seasons. Until I do a little more research, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that I have something adjusted incorrectly (chain length perhaps?), because it just doesn't seem normal for an LX to make this much noise. If not for the clanging, I'd rate this product at a five.
Great derailler for the price and the shifting is smooth and precise. I use it for freeriding and it has not skipped once while i was pedaling for the run up of a jump.
The Shimano LX is the best overall derailleur made by Shimano for several reasons. When Shimano creates a product, they create the base one to develop the higher priced ones off of. In Shimanos case, this would be the DEORE. AS you may know, the order of derailleurs from shimano goes DEORE, LX,XT,and then XTR. To create the XTR from the DEORE, the company decides on certain specs it must meet (i.e. weight, perfromance). However, to meet those specs, Shimano will often take strength away from the product to make it lighter. I have found LX and XT to be the best shimano derailleurs period.
