Great shifting paired with slx shifters. Kind of expensive, but the best there is. One of the best features is that it can be completely disassembled to be cleaned and rebuilt.
had the 972 on my Yeti for one full season, it was easy to set up and tune. it has not missed a shift in over 500+ miles of hard riding. the only con might be the price.. but you really do get what you pay for!

This is the best derailleur I ever had, I had it for a while and It does not need any adjustments, It shifts perfectly, and is very light. I use it for trail rides and single tracks.
Mine spoiled in one month! I ride MTB´s since 1990 and it was the first time that something made by shimano disappointed me. But the true is that since I tried SRAM few years ago it´s difficult to come back to shimano.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This has been the most dependable derailleur I have ever used and I would say if you can get one then get it
This is probably a fine derailleur for western riding. I do not recommend it for east coast or mid west riding. A stick went into the derailleur as I was riding. This is a common occurrence on mid west trails. The stick ruined the derailleur. Most other derailleurs will shrug off a stick with no problem.
