Redline Monocog Bike 2014

Simplicity

Single speed, hardtail bikes have long been the go to choice when it comes to selecting a bike for it’s simplicity. A bike with fewer moving parts equates to less maintenance, less noise, and less distraction. They are for those of us who want to simply get on a bike and ride. We want to think less and enjoy more. The Redline Monocog bike with it’s basic drive train reduces noise and distractions and turns the level of interaction with the surroundings up. Enjoy the simplicity of it.

The foundation of the Redline Monocog bike is it’s full Chromoly frame and fork with S-bend stays and horizontal dropouts. All that is needed on the wide 700mm bars are the lock-on grips and some brake levers for the Tektro Aquila mechanical disc brakes. The Redline Monocog rolls on a set of Alex 29 inch wheels that are wrapped in Kenda Nevegal tires.

Redline Monocog Bike 2014 Features:

  • Full tig chromoly frame with gusseted headtube, suspension adjusted geometry, S-Bend stays and horizontal dropouts.
  • Redline 29” chromoly uni-crown, straight legged fork
  • SRAM 5D crankset with 32t chainring
  • Tektro Aquila disc brakes.

Odd geometry
I wanted this bike for some simple single track in my area (southern Ontario) it'll be a great bike for taking up north eventually. Aesthetically pleasing bike, wheels were slightly out of true. I'm more of a roadie myself but everything I own is single speed be it free or fixed so I have a lot of experience with single speeds. Wheelset is otherwise solid, sort of heavy but fair. Brakes needed to be adjusted but that very well might have been due to being shipped from California to Ontario. Largest problem I have with this bike that is somewhat negligible is the geometry. There is some pretty heavy toe overlap which is a problem I've only ever had on track bikes. I'm not quite used to it on a mountain bike but I can get used to it. Overall great bike.

PROS: Durable, Versatile, Bombproof

CONS: Geometry, Heavy

BEST USES: Single track, Mountain Biking
