The R539 is an excellent dual pivot caliper brake for road bikes. Made of forged aluminum arms, this caliper is solid, yet only weighs in at 160grams each. The R539 features Tektro’s new lock device QR. Standard calipers don’t open very wide. Therefore, it is hard to get wider tires out. However, Tektro has increased the width that it opens as well as added on a safety lock devise.

  • Dual Pivot Caliper
  • Forged aluminum arms
  • P422 adjustable angle cartridge brake pads
  • Dimensions: 47-59mm
  • 160 grams per

Comments about Tektro R539 Road Caliper Set:

I needed a better set of brakes and these fit the bill. My original Dia Compe brakes lacked stopping power and didn't operate well with Shimano brifters. These work and look great on my steel frame bike.

Comments about Tektro R539 Road Caliper Set:

These are good brakes and one of the few "long reach" (47 - 59 mm) models available. They use standard Shimano compatible road pads and holders which are easy to find. Pad alignment is easy to adjust. The return springs are quite stiff requiring more than usual hand pressure and the OEM pads are not that good so substituting Kool Stop "Dura type" pads is recommended.

Comments about Tektro R539 Road Caliper Set:

I ordered a pair to replace my old brakes. I'm really picky with my brakes and these brakes surprised me. These brakes provide good feel and stopping power in dry and rainy weather. And I like the fact the quick release actually works.
Overall very impressed and ended up buying another pair for my girlfriend's bike.

Comments about Tektro R539 Road Caliper Set:

These replaced the stock (no-name) calipers that came on a Schwinn Madison single speed. I am using wide (32mm) tires for casual riding and commuting. The stock calipers don't open wide enough for the tires to be installed. The Tektros open really wide. They look great too.
