Rocky Mountain Bicycles humbly began in the basement of a Vancouver British Columbia bike shop, in 1981. The employees first imported bikes to sell to their customers. Later, they began manufacturing and importing frames to their exact specifications. Rocky Mountain now produces mountain bikes, road bikes, and urban bicycles. The company has come quite a ways from their modest beginning; however, their core values have never wavered. Rocky Mountain Bicycles is just as sought after now as they were in 1981.
Though the Altitude has been around for quite some time, it has been completely revamped. To start, the Altitude features the 650b/ 27.5 wheel platform, which has taken the industry by storm. The 27.5 platform is the best of both worlds. The Altitude series accelerates and is as nimble as a 26” wheel bike, yet features the extra stability and traction found on a 29” bike. Rocky Mountain poured tons of technology into the Altitude series including ABC pivots, StraightUP™ geometry, SmoothLINK™ Suspension, and Ride-9. Once you throw a leg over the Altitude you’ll never look back.
The Altitude 730 is constructed of FORM™ 7005 series custom hydroformed alloy and features ABC™ pivots. ABC™ Pivots are Rocky Mountain’s patent pending Angular Bushing Concept™ pivots. ABC™ pivots are lighter, more durable, and are laterally stiffer than cartridge bearings. The Altitude 730 also features a tapered head tube for stiffness, press fit bottom bracket, and ISCG 05 tabs. The Rocky Mountain Altitude 730 features StraightUp™ geometry, which allows for efficient climbing. As the suspension sags, you are now in a powerful pedaling position of approximately 73°. This allows you to sit in the middle of your saddle with your weight over your pedals for efficient climbing. SmoothLink™ Suspension features minimal pedal feedback so you get a smoother pedal stroke. By placing the rear pivot above the rear hub axle, the average chain torque line stays parallel to the lower link, which eliminates pedal-bob. Lastly, the Rocky Mountain Altitude features the new RIDE- 9 system, which allows you to adjust the head angle from 66.6° to 68.3°, and the seat tube angle from 73.6° to 75.3° by rotating the chip at the upper shock mount.
Rocky Mountain strived to make a bike with the latest and greatest technology, utilizing the 650b/ 27.5 platform that didn’t break the bank. You’ll find high quality components at an affordable price point with the Altitude 730. Rocky Mountain chose to dress the Altitude 730 in RockShox suspension components. The RockShox Revelation RL Solo Air works harmoniously with the RockShox Monarch RT custom valved rear shock. The Revelation features 150mm of glorious suspension with Motion Control Lockout and rebound adjustment. The 15mm Maxle Lite and tapered steer tube ensures the front end is rigid. The RockShox Monarch allows you to adjust the rebound, trail threshold lockout, and suspension rate. SRAM X.5 trigger shifters work with the SRAM X.7 front and rear derailleurs to produce 20 gears which will serve you well, no matter the terrain. Avid Elixir 3 brakes hydraulic brakes will bring your bike to stop, when you’ve had enough fun for the day. From wheel to wheel, the bike is doused in high quality components, from the SRAM 10 speed drivetrain, to the Race Face cockpit pieces, ending with the Wheeltech inferno wheels by SUNringle.

Comments about Rocky Mountain Altitude 730 Bike 2013:
You can tell this bike is built well. The problem is that at this price point, this translates into a heavy bike.
New the bike was around 31.5 lbs. With a few carbon components and new wheels and tires, I got the weight down to 26.8 lbs. I also went XX1 which works flawless. Not bad and just the bike I wanted.
Comments about Rocky Mountain Altitude 730 Bike 2013:
I've demoed this bike only, but rode it on familiar trails right after taking out the Element 29er BC Edition. Too, I've been riding a 650b hardtail for the past five years. I feel they really nailed the geometry on the 730, climbs and corners like a bike with 100mm of travel yet handles rock drops, ledgey ups, like the 150mm bike it is. The handling was so intuitive that the bike immediately disappeared underneath me. Don't be turned off by the RS rear shock either, it worked flawlessly and the ability to nearly lock it out was huge on the road portions of my test loop. I told the demo rep, upon returning from my ride, that this is the "mountain biker's mountain bike."
Oh, comparo to the 29'er? I felt the 9er liked to get airborne easier, oddly enough (maybe a suspension setup nuance?) but that the Altitude dealt with the gnar and trail chunder better. Go figure!
