Rocky Mountain Element 950 29er Cross Country
Rocky Mountain Bicycles humbly began in the basement of a Vancouver, British Columbia bike shop in 1981. The company first imported bikes to sell to their customers; later the company began manufacturing and importing frames to their exact specifications. Rocky Mountain now produces mountain bikes, road bikes, and urban bicycles. The company has come quite a long way from their modest beginning; however, their core values have never wavered. Rocky Mountain Bicycles is just as sought-after now as they were in 1981.
The Element is Rocky Mountain’s line of full suspension cross country bikes. The Element line is known for having great value rolled into excellent performance. Rocky Mountain developed an innovative linkage system called ABC Pivot. This linkage system is lighter and stiffer than traditional sealed cartridge bearing pivot systems. This is a great advantage which and increases performance by eliminating binding in the pivot.
The Rocky Mountain Element 950 is constructed from FORM tubing. FORM is Rocky Mountain’s process for creating frames of the highest quality. 7005 series alloy is hydroformed into shape then welded to match exact design specifications. Attention to detail is crucial and Rocky Mountain has years of experience building high quality bikes. The 950 also features a tapered headtube which maximizes stiffness and strength in the front end of the bike.
Rocky Mountain knew that they had to outfit the Element 950 with a solid build kit. They chose the lightweight and strong RockShox SID RL 100mm 29er fork. This fork is air sprung and has low friction 7000 series lightweight 32mm aluminum stanchions. The SID RL also features a remote lockout. The rear suspension is the RockShox-recommended Monarch RL 95mm with custom valve. This rear shock has an external rebound and lockout. Together, the RockShox SID RL and Monarch RL make for a smooth ride that can tackle all kinds of terrain. Avid Elixir 50 XR hydraulic brakes with 180mm rotors are high performing and offer more than enough power to slow you down. Race Face Evolve 3x10 cranks matched up with Shimano Deore rapid fire shifters, Shimano SLX E mount front derailleur and Shimano SLX rear derailleur round out the 3x10 drivetrain.
The Rocky Mountain Element 950 is one heck of a bike. Taking advantage of the innovative ABS pivots technology and the FORM tubing process, Rocky Mountain has been able to produce a fantastic 29er cross country frame. Then, pooling talent from their industry-wide experience, Rocky Mountain used a fantastic assortment of proven parts to build the Element. The bike is perfect for any cross country rider looking to step up their game!
