Rocky Mountain Bicycles humbly began in the basement of a Vancouver British Columbia bike shop, in 1981. The employees first imported bikes to sell to their customers. Later, they began manufacturing and importing frames to their exact specifications. Rocky Mountain now produces mountain bikes, road bikes, and urban bicycles. The company has come quite a ways from their modest beginning; however, their core values have never wavered. Rocky Mountain Bicycles is just as sought after now as they were in 1981.
When designing the Instinct, Rocky Mountain took what they learned from making superior cross country bikes and added in some trail mauling attitude, to design a 29er that is both efficient, yet rugged enough to make it through the trails when the terrain gets gnarly. Rocky Mountain is known within the industry for pouring tons of R&D (research and development) into their bicycle designs. Creating the Instinct was no exception. You’ll find the geometry spot on for a 29er cross country/ trail bike, due to Rocky’s new RTC 29 geometry. With RTC 29 geometry, the myth that a 29er can’t handle technical terrain ends here. The short tope tube gives the rider a more natural, 26” bike feel, with more maneuverability. The Instinct also features Ride- 9, which allows riders to customize their geometry and suspension rate to their riding style, and weight. Ride- 9 allows the rider to adjust the head angle from 67.7° to 69.3°, and the seat angle from 73.7° to 75.3°, by rotating a chip at the top of the shock mount.
The Rocky Mountain Instinct 970 is composed of FORM™ 7005 series custom hydroformed alloy, and uses Rocky Mountain’s ABC™ pivots. ABC™ Pivots are Rocky Mountain’s patent pending Angular Bushing Concept™ pivots. ABC™ pivots are lighter, more durable, and are laterally stiffer than cartridge bearings. The Tapered head tube and Press Fit bottom bracket add stiffness to the frame for maximum pedal efficiency. Internal cable routing makes for a sleek looking bike, and helps to reduce cable contaminants and snagging.
The Rocky Mountain Instinct 970 features a race ready build that is itching for you to take it on the trail. Rocky Mountain dressed in Instinct 970 in Fox Suspension pieces including a Fox 32 Float 29 130 FIT CTD fork, and a Fox Float Remote CTD custom valved rear shock. The Fox Float fork features 130mm of travel which is more than enough to tackle your local cross country trails. The Float suspension fork features Fox’s FIT cartridge.FIT stands for Fox Isolated Technology. FIT technology employs a bladder system that keeps the oil and air from mixing to provide optimal performance in all riding conditions. Both the fork and rear suspension utilize Fox’s new CTD technology. CTD stands for Climb, Trail, and Descend. CTD stands for Climb, Trail, and Descend. CTD allows you to micro adjust your fork on the trail without messing with confusing low speed compression settings. No need to look down to adjust your suspension, the Float features a remote located on your handlebars. Together, the Fox Shocks suspension pieces work together to create a smooth ride that is both efficient, plush, and adds minimal weight to the bike. Though the suspension package is astounding, Rocky Mountain completed the bike with an equally stunning drivetrain. Shimano XT shifters act as the brain for the Shimano XT front and rear derailleur. Gear shifts are crisp, clean, fast, and suspiciously quiet. The Race Face Turbine mates with the Race Face Press Fit Team XC bottom bracket seamlessly for a lightweight, yet stiff setup. Über lightweight DT Swiss wheels keep you rolling fast. Rocky Mountain included the RockShox Reverb adjustable seatpost, which allows you to micro adjust the height of your post without meandering away from the trail.
The Rocky Mountain Instinct 970 is a race ready 29er, chalk full of high end components. The finely tuned 29er geometry, component package, and expert craftsmanship set the Instinct 970 apart from other bikes in its class.
