Enjoy the same reliable, lightweight performance that SRAMs BlackBox racers enjoy. The 990 cassette has been updated with a trick anodized aluminum lockring and spider that shaves grams over previous setups. The cogs are blast chrome plated for a durable, attractive finish.

Works great with SRAM drivetrains, of course, but also totally compatible with Shimano 9sp equipment, so theyre a great upgrade for any 9 speed bike on the market.

Weight: 272g(11-32)
305g(11-34)
Material: Alloy carrier
Aluminum lockring
Steel cogs
Compatibility:

9 speed SRAM or Shimano drivetrains

Great cassette, no problems. Doesn't leave horrible bite marks on the hub's aluminum freehub body like my old Shimano cassette did.

Used in conjunction with SRAM PC971 chain, X9 rear shifter and X9 rear derailleur.

I had the 11-32 and it weighed 271g.

I really don't want to complain, but I've only had 3 rides on the cassette because it started skipping it's middle gears almost immediately after installation. I inspected for the cause and found the 18 ring (smallest on the spider) is bent toward the 21 ring causing the chain to ramp up as it comes around. My first thought was "I've damaged my first cassette in 14 years of MTB," so I decided to harvest an old XT cassette off my wife's bike to see if the chain was also damaged because I couldn't see any impact marks on the cassette or chain. Like magic, the old XT mounted and operated like it was pre-adjusted. I've ridden once now and on the trail shifting is normal again. Yes, its possible I bent the cog somehow but left the chain operational. (BTW, Im 175lbs and ride XC.)
Otherwise, this cassette arrived bent; a fault of manufacturing I cannot prove because I've used the item. Bummer.

9 speed stuff is getting harder to find, so I was happy I found what I was looking for here.

Nice, light, functional, and relatively durable.

Jenson is my number one source for these rear cassettes. I'd pay more than twice this from my LBS. I always buy two at a time in case the sale ends, but Jenson just seems to keep them on sale year after year.

Reasonable performer at a great price. Not durable enough for heavy off-road use; will show significant wear in under 1000 trail miles. Perfect, however, for a commuter bike on our steep hills.

Comments about Sram PG-990 9 Speed Cassette 2011:

Works like a cassette should. I am replacing a Shimano XT (M770) cassette with this one only because I found the SRAM cheaper. It's a cassette and it shifts as it should. Is it better than the Shimano? I would say they are pretty much equal with maybe a slight edge to the Shimano.

Luv this cassette. Upgraded from a 7speed" and i mean wow what a difference. I travel all over the country and when i buy new parts its for need and dependability. And this cassette makes climbing alot easier and smooth shifts up and down no worries . Only thing i dont like is color its sort of a pink tint not red like i wanted but other the that its a great part for the price i paid

Nice, lightweight cassette, especially for the sale price. It shifts very well with my X0 derailleur.

Only small knock, the red anodizing on mine was very light, giving it a pinkish color. Not a big deal since you can't really see it, but something to keep in mind if you're trying to match colors.

This cassette replaces a Shimano lower-end cassette that came stock with my ride. I ride a 29er so the jump to a 34 tooth cog has been nice. Shifting has been excellent. I have it paired with an XO derailleur, and XO Grip Shifter. In the two years this combo has been on my bike I have never lost a chain. BTW - I run a Saint Triple Ring Crankset.
