To really experience cross country/ trail biking, you need the best equipment. Once you throw your leg over the Jamis Dakar XCT 3, you’ll realize the brilliance that is carbon. For 2011, Jamis constructed the frame with 130mm of travel using a Dyad XC Ultra lay-up of M30 and T700 high modulus carbon fiber, which optimizes ride quality, durability, and stiffness. To further decrease the weight of the Dakar XCT, Jamis used their mp4 multi- link suspension design. Mp4 provides a low center of gravity and offers superb pedaling efficiency. The 10mm shock hardware increases lateral and torsional stiffness, and enhances rear shock durability and performance. To achieve a stiff front end, the XCT features a 1 1/8” to 1.5” tapered head tube. The tapered head tube keeps the frame light weight while increasing the stiffness and strength at the crown. Asymmetrical chainstays achieve a greater tire clearance and is much stiffer. The rear triangle features a 12mm x 135mm Maxle thru- axle for strength and stiffness. Jamis poured tons of their resources into the research and development of the Dakar XCT 3. The geometry is spot on for cross country to trail riding. Whether you are an aspiring mountain goat, climbing the steepest hills or a self proclaimed single track super star, the XCT will serve you well.
Though, the frame in its self is a work of art. Jamis completed the package with a high end component group that is lightweight yet extremely strong. The RockShox Sektor RL fork delivers 100-140mm of on the fly adjustable travel. The 32mm stanchions are rigid and resistant to flex even when put under trying conditions. The Sektor features RockShox famous Motion Control™ damping. With motion Control, forks are able to chew up climbs with incredible efficiency while the patented lockout blowoff valve and threshold control immediately absorb any bumps along the way. The elegant design in a simple and lightweight package make this the perfect fork for the Jamis Dakar XCT 3. The RockShox Monarch RT high volume rear shock was chosen to complete the suspension package. This high quality rear shock is a chameleon of sorts. As you’re climbing small bumps will disappear. Point the bike down the mountain and suddenly roots, rocks, and ruts disappear.
To add the icing on the cake, a Shimano 10 speed drivetrain was added to the XCT 3 this year. Experience smooth, reliable, fluid shifting with Shimano SLX M660 Rapidfire Plus SL shifters. Shimano SLX deraileurs will quickly transfer you between gears. The Shimano SLX M660 Hollowtech II crank will provide you with enough strength and rigidity to power through the hills. Should a small fluffy rabbit cross your path, slow your WTB Laser Disc Trail wheels down with your Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes. You’re heart may skip a beat, but it won’t be from fear. The Jamis Dakar XCT 3 epitomizes love at first site.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT 3 Bike 2011:
I really like this bike, it's a shame for 2013 they are no longer made and Jamis is focusing on 650b & 29er. It would have been great if Jamis put the lighter Revelation RLT fork that they put on the Aluminum XCT2, but the Sektor is not bad. I need to find a heavier spring. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT 3 Bike 2011:
The bike rides and handles great. Best I've ever ridden so far for trail/all mountain. Very light and manouverable; for the durable part I won't speak since it's a new bike :). Also, it was a very pleasant surprise to open the box and find out that actually the rear hub was not WTB Laserdisc Lite as specified, but the Super Duty version instead. Nice upgrade!

Comments about Jamis Bicycles Jamis Dakar XCT 3 Bike 2011:
So far I am riding a lot of hilly, twisty singletrack. I don't/can't use the bike to it's suspension capability but I sure do enjoy what it offers. I wemt from a Trek 4500 hardtail, to an '05 Yeti 575 to the Dakar. I'm a serious recreational rider and do at least 10 miles 3 days a week.
It responds so much better to my pedal effort, must be the pedal platform the Monarch offers over my 5th element Yeti. Also the 3-4# it shed. I'm now riding the same basic trails in a higher gear up hill and down and between 1/2 to 1 mph faster over that 10 miles.
I like the Sektor fork adjustability although the compression damping adjustment is abrupt. I'm still getting up my cornering confidence but the last two rides that's coming nicely. Fall leaves are slowing me down a bit. I'm still deciding if I like the Geax front tire.I may swap out my WTB Wolverine to see.
The brakes are ok although they do make some odd noises at times. I'm not sure they modulate as well as the Shimano's on the Trek or the Yeti Hayes 9s. So far they are nice and firm and dependable.
It's even a joy to get in and out of the vehicle and put up on the bike hook. I'm starting to look at carbon fiber upgrades to improve the weight even more. It sat on the scale at 28.5# with pedals and a cage and that's with the fairly heavy Ritchey comp stuff.
