I used a pair of these for approximately 10k miles.
They do retain the same basic shape of the other Shimano SPD-SL pedals, but are lacking in quality.
They developed bearing / bushing play and, even after a rebuild, continued to have noticeable flex / rocking.
I'd upgrade to a set of the alloy Dura-Ace SPD-SL's if you've got the dough. The quality difference is night and day. The use of rollerbearings means they can withstand higher loads and more abuse without developing axle slop. They're also easier to rebuild and repair.

Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
If you don't might the extra weight these are otherwise exactly the same as much more expensive Ultegras.
Clipping in and out is exactly what you would expect from Shimano.

Great pedals and I would recommend them. The only con is I see that over time the paint might rub off in places.

Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
used for 1 year so far; broke part of cleat off while at a rest top ; did not effect engagement. Bought an extra pair of cleats so I won't get stranded. Like the pedals; not too concerned about weight & the bike is full 105 so it complemented well.
Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
I've been riding these pedals for about the last 800 miles now, having switched from a pair of Shimano MTB pedals (had an extra pair when I bought the road bike, so just threw them on). The wide platform is very comfortable on long rides (I didn't realize how uncomfortable I was before!).

Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
I upgraded from the 540 to the 105 pedals and they seem to be a little wider and use more medal in the construction than the 540 pedals.

Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
A very high quality pedal at an affordable price. This is all the pedal any rider needs. If you spend more money than this, you are simply trying to impress your riding buddies.
Comments about Shimano 105 PD-5700 Pedal:
I have used these for about six months and have no complaints so far. They feel solid and don't weigh much more than pedals that cost 5x more.
