I was a little curious about using these grips. I hadn't ever tested them before. When I saw that they were marked at the right price I couldn't resist a test try. They went on slick and now my bars fell smooth and plush. They have a surprising amount of "sticky" factor to the grip (but in a good way) that help to keep your hands on the bars. The grips don't rotate on the bar once they are in place and they slide on relatively easily.
The technique that I used to place them on the bar is with the window cleaner trick. I spray the bar down, I spray the inside of the grip, and with the bike lying on the ground (so that one end of the handle bar is touching the ground, and the other is sticking into the air) I place the "lubed" grip onto the bar and push down. Once the grip has started to slow down in the process of sliding on, place your palm over the end of the grip and push hard. This should force air into the grip on the bar and "inject" window washer fluid between the bar and the grip. This will make the grip seem really slippery on the bar, but if you read the instructions, it says to leave the grips alone for 24 hours after you have installed them. After the allotted wait time, the grips are stuck on, and not going anyplace soon.
Bottom line these are well worth the buy for some commuter grips. I'm even tempted to use them on the mountain rig.

I was hoping these would be similar to ESI's silicone grips. Not even close. I've used ESI's silicone grips in the past and I quite like them due to the decent friction and excellent softness - they keep my hands from getting beat up on the downhill bike. Not very durable, though, so I thought these Serfas grips would be an inexpensive substitute. The Serfas grips are solid, whereas the ESIs are foam. This appears to be is the critical difference. Without the extra surface area of a foam rubber, the Serfas are dangrously slippery - I've never seen a grip nearly so slick. They're also rather heavy and not as soft as the ESIs.Finally, these grips are shockingly undersized. I understand they're supposed to stretch onto a handlebar, but they have to almost double in diamter to fit, making them very difficult to install.I'm afraid I can see no reason to buy these grips, even at more than 80% off.

Good grip for short periods

    Comments about Serfas Silicone Grips:

I installed the Serfas silicone grips on an old Giant MTB frame with a sweep riser handle bar. I believe these grips are good for mountain biking and casual cycling. For longer distances on my Surly Troll, I prefer shaped ergonomic grips with a flatter surface at the heel of the hand. For very long distances, bars with many hand positions are useful.

    Comments about Serfas Silicone Grips:

Got these for an old mtb > singlespeed commuter conversion and they're brilliant for the money. Light, grippy, comfortable. They're just a bear to install. Lots of window cleaner helps with that. On the plus side, they're not going anywhere.

These are a great, inexpensive set of grips. They were a little more difficult to install than standard rubber grips, but very durable. Their best feature is their tackiness when wet.

These are good grips for XC riding, very comfortable. They last forever, my last pair lasted 2 years of hard riding. I wouldn't pay the $20 retail price most bike shops charge, but for $4 these are bomber.

            Comments about Serfas Silicone Grips:

For the price, it is a great deal. You can replace these 3-4 times a year for the price of new ODI lock-ons. They are comfortable and feel great when riding with and with out gloves, even when you are sweating like mad. Installation as not as hard as everyone seems to think. They have also lasted me several months with virtually no sign of wear. And they don't leave little rubber pieces on your hands after a few hours of riding like my other ODI grips.

My only complaint is about the strength. Mine ripped and left a 0.5" long tear after one week of installation, but they were still rideable. Don't know if this was a defective grip or what, but I still have not replaced it. I think any type of fall could result in a ripped grip. Also, they seem to slide over time, however their movement is probably comparable to any grip that is not a lock-on.

I still think the price compensates for any complaint though. If one rips, just pick up a new pair for cheap and you got yourself another spare grip!

            Comments about Serfas Silicone Grips:

To address some of the comments about the grip being "slick" and/or not tacky I would say that this specific brand of grip needs a little prep work to make it usable without some break-in time. First scrub the outside of the grips in water with a scotch brite pad until the color darkens slightly this will give the grip the tackiness so many enjoy about these silicon grips. Second I like to take a razor blade and etch a crosshatch pattern on the our side of the grip cutting only about an 1/8-1/4 of the total thickness of the grip. This gives the grip a little more coarse texture that I personally like. After doing these two mods I feel like the grips really perform great and still last a long time.

The best grips I have ever used. Also the best price. Somewhat more difficult to install, but easy enough with iso propyl alcohol or an air compressor.
