Comments about Shimano SLX RD-M662 Rear Derailleur:

Replaced a very old 9-speed XTR derailleur with this more current SLX derailleur. The added Shadow clutch significantly reduced chain slap and help me move to a 1x9 setup without a chainstay. Weight and shifting is identical and worked perfectly with existing shifters.

A definite upgrade from the deore m591. Follow the instructions if you want an easy install. Kills chain slap and delivers positive shifting. Don't see getting a better derailer for my hybrid unless I go 10 speed.

Perfect for those looking for some performance but not wanting to shell out lots of money. Does it shift like XTR nope, like XT pretty close. For the avid MTBer its the perfect derailleur. You can smash this into a rock and destroy it and oh well there is a couple bucks out the door. It performs just as well as XT without the price tag. For those wanting XTR level performance here is the reality check, if you need XTR you aren't buying it its given to you. Don't buy based upon name this SLX derailleur will probably out perform any of your expectations.

Smooth, precise, quick-shifting action and it keeps the chain slap to a minimum. Experimenting with changing to a single chainring, and this shortcage RD is proving to be the ticket. Take care and follow the instructions, and the install will be painless.

Run the GS cage on a 2x9 squishy. Tension spring is firm so it keeps chain slap down to almost zero & it is tucked out of the way. I haven't been able to hit anything with it yet.

I wanted to lower my gearing for one of my road bikes to give my 57 year old knees a break when climbing. This derailleur was easy to install and has very precise shifting when combined with Ultegra 6600 STI's. Despite Shimano's (mis)information, this derailleur also works great with cassettes with large cogs less than 32t (used with a 12-27). For hard climbing days, I install a SLX 11-34 10 speed cassette.

Comments about Shimano SLX RD-M662 Rear Derailleur:

Used to have Deore front and rear (long), now I have SLX front and rear (medium) AND I can feel that shifting is a lot smoother. Never hesitates or chatters; and best of all I have noticeably less chain slap. Probably because the spring of my previous (Deore) rd is worn out (1.5 seasons), so let's see how long this one lasts.
