I've been running Shimano 647s for years because I like a clipless pedal with a platform for all mountain riding. These do not take the place of platform pedals but provide enough of a platform to give extra support and something to put your foot on when you come unclipped. The clipless mechanism is very consistent on both entry and release which is extremely important. These are now my new favorite pedal.

I've been riding SPD pedals on my MTBs for years. I finally found a reason to buy a set of them with the trail configuration. I find the larger platform easier on the bottoms of my feet, a little more stable when I miss a quick clip in, and a little easier to clip into. (I use the SH56 cleat.)
Now that they are out in XT for under $100, they are my go to MTB pedal.

At almost half the cost of the XTR pedals, these are nearly identical and gain only a few grams so if you rock an SPD clipless setup, this is a no-brainer in my book. You get great release and entry and the new platform that aids in support for those moments you need it getting on the bike in a tough/ steep situation. These XT pedals have passed the long term abuse test.

The extended platform makes these much more stable than previous version. I went with XT vs. XTR due to price and I am glad I did as these are rock solid.

Rock solid pedal, easy to get in and out of and lightwieght. I especially like the slightly wider platform for better stability. I got mine on sale but they are a bit on the expensive side.

This is a design that works perfect and will be used for years to come. Having the exo-cage really helps pedal with more stability when you can't get clipped in right away. The only thing I was disappointed in was that the exo-cage did not make contact with my shoe when clipped in. I was under the impression that the cage would allow more of a foot pad to disburse your weight from the one area that previous Shimano pedals only had. This is not the case. But, if you need to upgrade or replace pedals(like I did), for the price and quality of this product, you can't go wrong.
