The Tomac Nevegal features a tread pattern that was voted #1 tread pattern 2 years in a row by Mountain Bike Action Magazine. Ramped center knobs provide traction and speed while tall side knobs are designed to penetrate and hold on loose terrain.
  • DTC (Dual Tread Compound) - L3R Pro compound (60a durometer) in middle and Stick-E rubber compound (50a durometer) on sides/cornering knobs
  • L3R (Low Rolling Resistance Rubber) Pro compound has longer tread life, less rolling resistance and improved grip
  • Stick-E is a slow rebound, high-grip compound for downhill, freeride or trail
  • Tall knobs designed to penetrate and hold on loose terrain
  • Kenda does not endorse the use of any fluid-based sealant products in any Kenda tube-type or tubeless-type tires. Use of any fluid-based products will void any warranty claims

For the last 10+ years I have run only Panaracer Fire XC. They last forever grab good both new and old and wear evenly through the useful life. I purchased this tire on sale for [$] and figured I would give it a try. First interaction I noted that it was an obvious knock off of the Fire XC tread design. The knob design is obviously different but at the same time very much the same. Knob placement is almost identical with the key difference in that the Kenda spaced the knobs a little further apart. This spacing leads to more road noise riding to and from the trailhead and causes the tread to pick up and huck larger pebbles. The grip on trail is good for both straightline and turning. Overall I am satisfied with this tire. As of now I have only run it as a front, with my old front Fire XC on the rear. I plan to reverse the tire rotation when I move it to the back to create a scoop (just like the XC). Tread wear has been great and these look like they will last as long as the XC. Have I found a new favorite? No but if the price is right then I will purchase again in the future.

I have very mixed feelings with this one.It performs really well in its window of use, but has a few notable glitches:

    - has a very narrow window of usable pressure: too much and you'll bounce around like crazy, too little and it's pinchflat galore. It does perform nicely when you get it to the correct pressure though.

    - the sidewalls are just too fragile for rocky terrain.Four days on rocky alpine terrain and I had 7-8 sidewall cuts and sidewall SNAKEBITES on the rear. The tire was unusable afterwards. It was fine for a week before that on more woodsy terrain with only one slight sidewall scrape, so it obviously really doesn't like rocks.

Bottom line, they are a good choice if you ride on smooth(ish) terrain, rocky terrain, not so much.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding Tire:

Wore out a set of Nevegal Stick-E 2.35" and decided to go with the DTC to same a few grams. Well, they are lighter on paper, but not in reality at 740g. They are also not the same width as the old tires. The old Stick-E measured 2.31" at the casing and 2.38" at the knobs. That's what I call truth in advertizing, but the DTC barely squeaks out 2.21 at the knobs. Even the knobs are smaller across. The tire really does work great, hooks up in all conditions, any angle, any terrain, but would like to have the extra volume for the really nasty stuff. If you are looking for a really nice 2.2", and don't mind a bit of weight, this is it.

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding Tire:

I really like this tire for its nuetral low speed tractiona which allows it to change directions instantly. Its conforms to the terrain very well with tubeless. Its not a drifting style tire butt he sticke corners make up for most of that. It could be faster rolling but then it wouldn't hook up as well. The sticke on the front and dtc rear was almost too much traction for the front as it would never skim over the peaks of stuff in really rocky terrain and actually just track it all. That's why I went to DTC F&R but I am on my 3rd set and love em!

Comments about Kenda Nevegal DTC Folding Tire:

Pretty much the best mountain bike tire out there. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, as I would prefer to be able to convert these to tubeless (without spending days on end waiting for the sidewalls to seal). But, I decided to round up and give them the full 5 stars. Paired with a Small Block 8 in the back, the Nevegal give excellent bite without too much rolling resistance. With a tire this big, it's not going to be a light-weight tire, but overall, on a 2010 Stumpjumper FSR, this is a great tire.

I've been riding these tires for years and I still feel they work great.

I'm using a set of these for XC and trail. They grip, corner and climb like nobody's business. The bad news is they are slow. Although I am very happy with these tires I'm not sure I won't go with something a little faster next time.

If you are a monster, you can pedal these things. Otherwise, you will need hydraulic rams for legs. Yes, even on level ground. The sidewalls are quite porous, and are hard to seal with sealant. They bruise and tear fairly easily also. But, you will get excellent traction in most conditions.
